Hamilton would be happy to host some games! I'm sure Downsview could make it work but the dirt infill and temporary Astroturf would get in the way of the concerts I would think and would change up the entire planned concert schedule for next year?

Wondering if Rogers Stadium could become a venue site for the 2026 FIFA World Cup if this happens...

2026 World Cup: FIFA considers moving games from USA to Canada amid immigration policies

I think it is more likely they would allocate 3 or 4 matches to BMO and a greater number to Vancouver and thats it. We complain a lot about BMO but once FIFA says the stadium is adequate to hold World cup matches, and holds the required capacity and security measures, it is fine for them. Rogers Stadium would need to be accredited again by FIFA, which is a Pain in the A. They would need to build TV facilities, Locker rooms, press rooms, Field entrances. Everything under a very strict FIFA standard.

They dont care that much about urbanism on this regard or if the stadium would look good on TV (aside of being full everytime, off course). if they bring more Football to Toronto it will be at BMO.

Reddit thread about the crowd control

Fantastic crowd control at Rogers Stadium and the resultant Backstreet Boys singalong following Blackpink
I promise the title is an accurate description of my experience.

I was excited to see how Rogers Stadium handled crowds since opening, and I’m thoroughly impressed.
There was a Safety Officer (I’ll refer to him as Traffic Commander, or Kyle) who guided exiting crowded in a game of red light/green light. They would only allow the crowd to proceed once the group of people ahead have hit a checkpoint. While it felt like a bottleneck, the mood was calm and felt very secure. There were ample staff people watching and very few people broke ranks. It was very orderly.

Interestingly as we waited, someone in the crowd suggested we sing the Backstreet Boys. The Traffic Commander played the greatest song of 1999, “I Want It That Way,” over the loudspeaker, leading to this video.
Once we got to Downsview Station there was a free GO train to Union, or free TTC access from there.

Overall I felt safe and quite impressed at how well they responded to the Strat Kids concert feedback. Looking forward to going back.

If Kyle is reading this, well done Traffic Commander.

Downsview had both Veld and Rogers Arena going and I haven’t heard any horror stories so can I assume that they have smoothed out transport?

It must have been wet at last night’s Oasis concert. That’s mostly okay in August, but I don’t see the appeal of paying $500 or more to sit on the ground, not being able to see the act.

I saw some footage on the news. They played my favourite thanksgiving dinner song about the dry turkey. “Yeah baby….., we’re gonna need to get some gravy…., cause after all……. it’s a Butterball….

Different strokes for different folks I guess - 50,000 people were pretty happy last night - myself included

Traffic is just one concern.
Timur Sharaftinov, whose parents live near the venue, told CBC Toronto that he visited them during one of Coldplay's concerts and it was "uncomfortably loud."
Noise? 🤣 I wonder if noise could be a problem for them if the story from Indianapolis about the 2026 Toronto IndyCar race maybe being at YZD is true?
I suppose if the track was set-up at mostly the north end of the property near the Downsview Park transit station, it would be farther away from the houses to the south, but somewhat closer to the apartment buildings on Sheppard Ave W -- though now that I look at it, there's apartment buildings in Liberty Village that appear to be closer to the race track layout that is used at Exhibition Place.
Also, the race weekend would be just for those three days and only during daylight, likely ending by about 6pm.
I'm still skeptical of how real this might be, at least until I hear something from local Toronto media.

... The “most likely option” to hold the race ... is the “now-defunct Downsview Airport.” ...

I was at Oasis last night and was pleasantly surprised at the crowd control and ease of getting on the subway after the gig. I was also at the Oasis gig in Edinburgh where more people attended and were being packed onto 3 car trams back to town so in comparison, Toronto was amazing.

Don't they double glaze the windows theses days?

I was at Sheppard and Wilson Heights last night, and it was surprisingly quite loud. Louder than normal. At 1km away it was like listening to it at a normal volume on headphones.
