This should be an object lesson to anyone who thinks that Downsview is a great location for a permanent sports/event venue. Especially something like an NFL sized stadium (80,000 plus people). Just because there seems to be lots of transit and road options in the region doesn't mean that the infrastructure can handle the loads brought by a venue of that size.

I realize that a permanent venue would trigger infrastructure improvements but still.

honestly if GO had 15-minute service on the Barrie line it would work a lot better. The limited GO service is what makes it struggle - and also the 100% lack of auto access which forces literally everyone onto the subway, basically.

What's the sound bleed like here? Any neighbourhoods up in arms and yelling at clouds over noise issues?
I'm closer to Bathurst, I can faintly (like a bassy murmur that you can't decipher) hear it when outdoors. But yes, this neighborhood is complaining.
They complain anytime something happens at downsview. The airport (despite existing before they moved here), the concerts, fireworks, it doesn't matter what it is.
Pasternak has been out in front acting like he's engaging Rogers about it and making sure to remind people it's a temporary venue.

Just wait till they figure out it's going to be a new neighbourhood that will attract people who are ethnically diverse and not indentured servants.

I mean it's not like the subway can't handle it, the line mostly clears out by Eglinton in my experience, even during rush hour it's not hard to find a seat. They just need to spread the volume to stations other than Downsview. Maybe assign a station to specific tickets.

Also additional connectivity, like a completed Bloor-Lansdowne station would help distribute 416 destined passengers away from the Spadina subway. Doubling back north to Union isn't actually helpful, for the few who know you can do it, once you've waiting 45+ minutes to get into the station. Might as well get on a subway train at that point.

Seeing this as a big win for the city and Rogers as no immense parking lots/congestion after each event because it relies on already built infrastructure with only tweaks needing to be made. I can’t think of another NA metro that has added a 50,000 seat venue in a suburban area with such ease!

I live in Clanton park between wilson and sheppard, just by allen road. I can see the airport fence from my window and I have not heard anything at all. The other day I heard some distant fireworks, but that was it.

VELD, the huge annual music festival, is taking place next month at Downsview Park. Is it incorporating Rogers Stadium into the festival, or is it being held at another place at Downsview? It's unclear from the website.

From the address they list, and the fact that it does not mention Rogers Stadium, it appears to be at or near the "Festival Terrace" area in Downsview Park, on the west side of the railway tracks.

Couldn’t they have just built the stadium further north along the runway? That might have helped ease some of the transit concerns. Then again, it seems the goal was to funnel people through the Fan Plaza to encourage spending, capitalist instincts taking precedence over thoughtful planning.

I thought the same thing. Even before this venue was announced, I assumed the area immediately near the Downsview Park TTC subway and GO train station would be the first preferred location for anything that would be built, particularly if it was going to be something intended to regularly attract crowds.

In looking at the satellite image, maybe avoiding possible noise complaints was a reason to position it where it is? It's almost in between the what appears to be the two nearest residential areas, the houses to the south (Hanover Rd, Maniza Rd, etc.) and to the northeast (apartment buildings at Sheppard Ave W and De Boers Dr., and the houses north of Sheppard West station). It's closer to Hanover Rd, but the sound from the stage is projected in a direction that is to the north and slightly west, towards the mostly industrial/commercial looking area immediately to the north of Downsview Park station.

And maybe they're assuming the middle of the airfield will be the last part to eventually be developed, giving them a chance to exist for longer before being required to vacate the property?
