I have a feeling that demolition of the Toronto Star Tower is due to begin soon and all of that was materials that were being stored on that side of the building
Yes, the demolition permit is at the 'inspection' stage so I assume this means it's about to be approved.

^I was hoping they would wait till the market has improved before doing anything there. Unless they're going full on rental.

I had forgotten it wasn’t gonna undergo just a renovation like the renderings here show. Is the updated proposal to build another super tall condo?
New plan is for a tall building, yes. Won't be a condo in this environment though.

It's plausible and would be the only viable thing nowadays, but that is a ton of units to bring online at one time. Huge financial requirements and absorption risk there right away.

Oh I didn't know we were tearing down the Toronto Star building - have any renders been released or will they rebuild in the same fashion as the current renders for that area?

This will be tallest tower (at 25 storeys and 101m) to ever be demolished in Toronto. Oddly enough, the old record-holder was the Toronto Star's previous HQ at King and Bay (22 storeys, 89m) in 1971.

I hope that they don't make the new one such that the TMD is sticking out at the top with this like they did with the tallest building.

That still isn't actually confirmed and there's a little bit of debate between everybody whether they actually are going to cover it I think looking at the rendering as opposed to the architectural that there is a cut out to show the top of the tuned last damper and that the facade raises to shield it like you see on prestige
