….yeah, I wouldn’t call spandrel’d tower filler an improvement unless quantity at whatever cost is your thing. Drop that in your hookah. 🙀

Recency bias is strong here. Quantity has increased in that time, not quality.

So buildings like CIBC Square, 160 Front haven't helped our skyline? I would agree some buildings just added to the volume and not quality, but certainly some of them have been good quality that makes our skyline more attractive then 25 years ago.

Kinda hard to look at those gems with turds in between and say it’s better though… >.<

Skyline 2000 vs 2024

I think the key buildings of our skyline have remained the same:
CN Tower, First Canadian Place, Scotiaplaza, TD's Mies van der Rohe buildings, Brookfield place.

Yes, there have been nice additions like CIBC Square or 160 Front.
But there has also been a lot of junk added.

I wouldn't consider that shot from 2025 to be "better". It's more dense for sure - but a lot of junk in there.
But has the ratio of 'junk' actually increased? Sure, back in 2000, a small handful of buildings, in the skyline were gems - largely because they were commercial buildings, which have always been built to a higher standard. But really there weren’t that many great buildings of note (100m+) in the city as a whole. Everything else, including all the buildings facing the waterfront and anything reasonably tall north of Queen, was pretty much just bulky or brutalist garbage.

Pinnacle One will have a huge impact on the skyline - especially since it's so near to the waterfront.

What other "great" tall buildings have been built over the last 25 years? CIBC square, and 160 Front. And hopefully Forma + The One coming soon.

What else has been great?

So much junk at City Place, South Core, Waterfront, Fort York, Liberty Village...

The Well, The One, One Bloor, Four Seasons, Picasso, 88 Scott, , etc. L Tower has a positive impact on the skyline even though it could have been way better
