One key thing also is to provide affordable retail space so that you don't price everyone out of the area like they have been doing across Toronto, hence why so many streets have for lease signs now. Just like they give affordable housing they should do the same for small business owners wanting to open a cafe etc. A wide variety of retail as well, not just the same old thing. Look at the Well I rarley see people buying anything from those stores.
Similar to vancouvers Granville island and toronto's distillery district is what's needed, and I'd argue, we need the space connected to rapid and street level transit in its own ROW to accommodate and boost the long term viability as a destination.

Pedestrianize it significantly and torontonians will flock to it for decades to come, businesses will thrive without a doubt, and local residents will adapt to car free lifestyle.

in or near the downtown core, I struggle to think of a single pedestrianized zone that isn’t filled with ppl and activities, which is what the city should be aiming for. The ROI will be unquestionable.

I agree, it would be a shame if OM was dominated by chain stores. It would essentially make it a yonge street 2.0. We don't want that. Below-market or affordable commercial spaces are key to actually making this a destination.

It's in a part of the park that won't open until next summer, so I don't see the rush. But there is no published completion date.

It is being repaired and painted, I assume that this is coming to an end - based on the time it took them to do the 'arm' they did (and uncovered) last year. I was (and am) assuming they will remove the scaffolding before winter but that area of the Park will not open until 2026..

It’s all still looking amazing, and it’s wild that I can look at seven different people posting pics from the same vantage point and love each and every picture.

Part of me wishes I had Newfoundland fisheries style rain gear so I could be out there during a torrential storm. Winter should be interesting.

One thing that does stick in my craw, especially knowing about development in the south, and the incredibly, highly, most crucial construction of the Porsche dealership (that really, should also have an indigenous name) -

Is that I’m sure we can all book a weekend in April next year (and for every successive year) for the Biidaasige Park clean up, where we can wade in the reeds to get Tim Hortons cups out of turtle nesting areas.

It’s as inevitable as the community warnings from future Biidaasige resident dog owners that there’s -gasp- dangerous wildlife in (who’d of thunk it?!) the recovered wetlands.

Last Sunday my wife and I launched our inflatable tandem kayak from Cherry Beach at around 8am and headed through the Eastern Gap and into the new river / estuary, turning back just north of Commissioners Bridge and arriving back at Cherry Beach by 1030am (enough time to leisurely explore and take some photos / videos). It was extremely hot and muggy with only a very light breeze. The water was bathtub temperature due to the long stretch of hot weather, hence the staggering extent of the river reeds (Phragmites?) that got tangled around our paddles in spots. It was nice to pause and cool off in the shade under the bridges ! One thing that caught my eye is how gorgeous the calm water reflection can be from a kayaker / canoer / stand-up paddle-boarders perspective (be it the skyline, the towering and almost brutalist 300-ton Atlas Crane à la Christo and Jeanne-Claude, the bridges themselves, flora, and even the fauna). Note, from the water there are few spots where one can see pedestrians and cyclists on the trails, except as they cross the bridges or gather at the launches. A very unique experience indeed, and utterly impressed by it all ! Here are some shots ...
