Can anyone give me the phonetic pronunciation of both the island and the park?

For the life of me I honest to God don't know how to say either. Like if I had to tell someone I was going to these places I wouldn't know how to say or spell them.

Which seems a little ridiculous for a public space.

Has nothing to do with them being Indigenous names. I think it's wonderful we're wrapping everything in Indigenous heritage these days.

It would be just as hard if there were long Celtic names or long Welsh names or long Slavic names or long Vietnamese names.

It's just that they don't exactly roll off the tongue, which feels like strange branding.
Indeed a couple of years, this will be as simple as "Toronto, Ontario, Canada", three indigenous (from different languages) words

Family outing (us and the swans!)

Great park!

Just to chime in before Northern Light-san does on this...they're based on indigenous words, not actually indigenous in the way it was originally spoken to my understanding. However, your point still stands.

...and it's not like we're calling these jurisdictions the tongue-tied Albuquerque, Tallahassee or Mississauga even. 😼

I guess they only look difficult because they are direct indigeneous words/phrases. Whereas a lot of the indigeneous origniated names we've came to know are "anglicized" spellings.

Wonder when Google Maps will do an update.

It's already showing for me. Maybe because I was there taking pictures?

Edit: Oh, I see. I guess you mean the river on the map and such. It looks like the satellite image is outdated. This is what a google search result revealed:

"There isn't a fixed timeframe for Google to update Google Maps with a new river or any other feature, as it depends on several factors. Google uses a combination of user contributions, satellite imagery updates, and other data sources to update its maps."

Apparently, it takes less time for Google Maps to rename Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America than to update the extended Don River through the east and south of Ookwemin Minising.
...especially when the latter is a vetted name, while the former is an assertion made by a ridiculous despot in international waters. /bleh

Car traffic is pretty bad out there on the Island as of noon. Cops are at almost every intersection from Eastern Ave, to Lake Shore Blvd, to Commissioners, directing traffic. I highly suggest walking, biking, or taking the bus to get there. Do not drive over there.

If you want to take a city bike out there, you will likely be able to drop that bike off at the station right beside Lakeshore Blvd and Cherry Street. It was empty when I walked past.

Cyclists are everywhere (dozens riding on the sidewalks). A cop even had to put his body in front of a couple of racing clad cyclists who tried to ignore his order to stop (at that parking lot) while he was directing traffic. Even after he told them twice and told them to get back on the bike path, they just stood there staring at the cop. I was standing right beside the altercation, with a big smirk on my face. The cop was NOT happy with those two. 😂
