This column better defines the bright cherry red of the entire installation. Otherwise muted a bit with cloud cover…

Why doesn't this structure have a roof, even a temporary one made of something like seasonal sun sails? Sun protection is a big issue for Biidaasige Park. It's a gem in Toronto but the tree cover is immature. While it grows in, we need temporary structural sun protection IMHO.
I think it'd be nice if we had more places with open sides but a covered roof for inclement days, too. There are few places in Toronto where you can sit & enjoy the sound of rain while staying dry.

@christiesplits has a post in the Toronto Parks thread on this not long ago (link to a Star article); and the post after that is a link to Alex B's latest which is broader than shade, but specifically mention's lack of same.

IF you get on to my post after that, you'll also note....Not every Toronto park has a drinking fountain either.

In fact, less than 1/2 do.

The very basics of Park design seem to befuddle the department. Shade, Water, Trees. Never mind the complexities or details of good design. I feel mean throwing the department under the bus because there are people there who care. But there
are too many who do not, and/or simply aren't sufficiently skilled to do their jobs properly.

Thanks for pointing me there! 🙇‍♀️
