I get your point, but don't forget that this is a "Provincial" asset and many families from outside the GTA may prefer or even need to drive a car to get there.

Which is why virtually everywhere else Therme has built, it has been in a suburban or even ex-urban location, where it can be surrounded by cheap parking.

Beyond parking, they build were they can find cheap real estate. If Therme had to purchase the Ontario Place lands at market value, it would probably take 300+ years for the project the break even.

The foot bridge over Lake Shore Blvd. has been removed.

/sigh ....might as well rename it Ford Nation Place. >.<

Oh thats a suprise, were they replacing that bridge too?
Does that hill get flattened too?

It looks like the hill will be replaced by a large entrance building that connects to a bridge that looks the same as the one they've just removed. So maybe it'll be back when the new building is done.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I think the park looks nice, and a large portion of it seems to be publicly assessible.

I am not a conservative or a ford supporter, but I kinda think that this is superior to what it was. Like I mentioned I walk by and through here a lot before and never see a whole lot of ppl in the west most area where the spa/water park is being built. I am not hating this.

I think it is either we get private investment to develop the park quickly or wait for another 5-10 years when Toronto Waterfront get enough money to develop this after they finish Parliament Slip and Villier Islands.

If this thing is not profitable, Therme can just give up the lease and we can repurpose the facility to something else, IMHO.

I guess maybe the parking is the sticking point for a lot of people?

A further City report on OP

At its meeting of December 4, 2024, Toronto and East York Community Council deferred consideration of item TE18.24 and directed the General Manager, Services to report to the January 14, 2025 meeting with a summary of pedestrian and cycling levels of service for the Ontario Place redevelopment. This supplementary report responds to that direction.

What a great (though VERY depressing) photo. We used to cycle around this area often and would see lots of wildlife, lake bathers and great skyline views. Sad!
I disagree, this photo actually gives me hope that finally a very underused relic of the past will become a destination for all to use. There will be plenty of public access.

I somewhat agree with both points of view.

The equivalent to me would be if they decided Centreville is no longer being used and needs to be demolished and then along with demolishing Centreville they tore down every tree on the island with it and ripped up all the grass and just left a giant brown field.
