Big news! My tunnel boring machine name submissions — Libby and Corkie — made the shortlist for the Ontario Line naming contest! 🎉

Voting is now open, and I’d love your support to help them win:

Some of you may remember I won the Crosstown contest with Dennis and Lea — let’s see if we can go 2 for 2! 🙌

Thanks for voting and feel free to share!

Damn you mean to say none of my suggestions (ie: Metrolinx Abolisher, No more P3s) didnt make the cut?

Well at least someone on UT has their submissions make the shortlist, good work!

My suggestion of Borey McBoringface didn't make the cut (oh! an unintentional pun) either.
Congratulations to Jason!

This could explain the delays we have seen at this site.

For anyone who hasn't done so, please click on the link and read the Global News article.

In all news and politics, the thing that bugs me the most, is not politicians and governments acting badly, or screwing up, it's the determined and automatic effort to hide what they've done.
"Transparency" is what we ask for, and it's a word governments like to campaign on, but once they're in, they change their minds, and everything has to be hidden.
Many governments have their scandals. In my view, the Ontario government's big scandal is their opaqueness. It's not just this transit topic, it's in dozens of things they do, starting with redrawing and shrinking the greenbelt, and the closing of the Science Centre based on a report we're not allowed to see, and which people who know about the centre have said they don't believe its closure over the need for repairs was justified.
Governments forget they work for us, and we are their bosses.

Imagine you are the president of a big company. Imagine you hear a rumour that your Accounting department is struggling with something, which they haven't told you about. You call the head accountant into your office and ask to have a report summarizing the situation, and to see the books. The head accountant clears his throat, and says, "I'm sorry Sir, our department has decided we can't let you see the books, or know what we're doing". Public apathy is like the company president who just says, okay then, and does nothing.

Of course, I realize that you can't fire one group of people, if you don't have others who are reliable, to take their place. That's a problem in politics too.
Sorry for the rant. But really, the article says they can''t comply with an access to information request about the history of Line 5, because months of emails got deleted after someone reset their cellphone? C'mon!

I submitted “just get” and “it done” but somehow Mx didn’t nominate those names since they’d rather focus on theatrics and making videos of stuff that they’ll never deliver on time or on budget lol… if they were serious about engagement with the public they’d answer our questions or try to deliver ANYTHING but this is another activity that will only have resources that should be focused on delivering outcomes to squander more time and money on a naming program and party.that I’d bet they’ve hired a senior manager at a cost of $200k to lead this campaign 😑

Ever since the "name the domed stadium" scandal of 1987, I have no interest in contests to name municipal things.

For those who don't remember, I think it was the Toronto Sun who ran the contest, with prize for the winning nomination. 2/3 of recipients were suggesting names of people who should be remembered (Gordon Sinclair was a favourite), and the other 1/3 picked Skydome, which had the other 2/3s asking why all these people were picking such a bland name. The answer, leaked while the contest was still running, was it was a poorly kept secret that the name had already been chosen (the corporation was registered under that name, letterhead was already printed), and the contest was just phony advertising. They did a draw of the thousands of entries that said Skydome, and someone got a prize for cheating, but by that time everyone knew, and it was a huge (and hilarious) embarrassment.
