What's worse is the two will be right next to each other on map legends and may even have an interchange in the future. Like I can't think of any good reason for this beyond ML not thinking this through. Like they hire these consultants and firms to create a new way-finding system yet apparently none of them raised a concern about having to purple lines so close together on a map?
The colours look very different to me. Line 4 looks close to the Line 8 number that TTC used for the Jane LRT in a proposed map a couple of years ago.

The Line 4 Purple and Line 3 Purple aren't close enough in color that it'll be a major issue. Line 3 mirrors the RH Line, both of which are nearly the same blue. It's funny that we'll have two purple lines but I doubt it'll cause issues

Looking at these colours, which are darker than what I've seen elsewhere (neither 3 nor 4 look like mauve or lilac at all), I'd call number 3 purple, and number 4 is a definite maroon.
I'm sure there's a punchline in there somewhere.

Ah yes, the Jane LRT. So that just leaves number 9 and we'll have no missing numbers from 1 to 10 :)

I'd even rather they used the number 8 pink for the 3 than the purple though, but ofc I'd prefer blue, because this:

just looks much nicer & more logical than this:

Wait until you hear about the two greens!

Moscow also has 2 greens (lines 2 & 10) and 2 blues (3 & 4), but they are quite distinctly different (the 2 matches ours and the 4 matches the SRT):

Meanwhile, Moscow's 7 closely matches NYC 7 & TTC 4:

In New York City, many lines or routes use the same colour. Also use diamonds as well as circles.
And in London, they use even more colours, and use a mix of solid, hollow, dashed, and even multi-colour lines (for the HSR commuter lines). I guess New Yorkers and Londoners don't get confused as much.

I still hate that 3 is now a purple-ish colour. As much as I like blue, I didn't need them to make line 10 blue. Did we really need 2 purple lines? Let's be honest, Metrolinx is atrocious at naming stations (West Harbour, East Harbour, Allandale, Old Elm, Eglinton, Cedarvale--which I had to look up because I couldn't remember the name) and now they're terrible at assigning colours to lines as well.

Yeah while I can somewhat understand grouping different lines together by color when they essentially branch off each other, I never understood their logic of assigning letter names that aren't grouped together (like why ACE, BDFM, etc, instead of ABC, DEFG, etc??).

Spot on.
