Why?

With Exhibition station only a few hundred meters away it wouldn't be practical.

It may even be within the stopping distance of trains.
It's about 400 metres from the current east end of the Exhibition platform to Strachan Avenue. A 12-car GO Train is usually about 335 metres long.

For GO, if you centred the new platform at Strachan, then the back end of the train stopping eastbound at Strachan would still be on the current platform for Exhibition.

Not the same for the subway, but it's not far.

The best solution would be to add a walkway from the east end of the Exhibition platforms to Strachan - instead of having to walk to the far west end of the platform.

Nice to see the Pier locations.
Are the footings in the pic below Pier A1 or A2 (or A3)?
This is foundation work in the valley just west of Don Mills Road where the Ontario line will cross. I’m not sure if this is related to the bridge, it is directly below the power lines.

Wonder what the reaction on Pape from Danforth to Cosburn has been to the crossover realignment. Can’t imagine it was welcoming since now the remaining businesses north of Aldwych on the east side, like Tzatziki, are doomed like their cousins on the Cosburn station box, and the tunnels will run directly over many more homes rather than under Pape.

For everyone else, presumably the construction impacts to Pape Avenue itself are significantly reduced.

Its a pretty big change, I understand why they are doing it. I just don't understand why this wasn't the original plan. I feel it hits worse with this being a change, after all the other closures, adding this one on later seems worse. Why would they have thought they could do it the other way before?

Probably trying to reduce impact by expropriating fewer properties,
then realizing that scheme wasn't worth it.
If the original design had gone with an east side crossover I wonder if it would have been deemed the best call to simply continue on that route and then expropriate an east side station box instead? With the space McDonalds takes up, would probably have resulted in far fewer net businesses displaced at Cosburn

Many of those "green things" are weed trees (non-native) and shrubs. Hopefully, they'll plant native seedling and saplings afterwards. Should be planting them now at the plant farm nurseries now.
I agree, and be that as it may, those trees still stabilized the slope at the time. It's a damned shame that there wasnt a better soil stabilization strategy here.

Completely agree but I get the impression that Metrolinx avoided the east side properties at Cosburn because of the church at the southeast corner which provides several community services including a food bank, youth programs, etc...which may have been politically challenging to expropriate vs all of the small businesses and the empty lot/former gas station plaza on the west side. But this is entirely speculation.

On that note, demolition began yesterday at the south end of the Cosburn Station site:

I feel like it's safe to say that the community along Pape has no idea that this realignment is coming. Saying this as someone in the area who found out about this on UT and not through any official communications.

Its unfortunate as Tzakiki probably has the best patio of any business along Pape aside from possibly Serano Cafe.

There goes the neighbourhood!

Could someone please (re)share the diagram of the new alignment requiring demolition of Tzatziki at Pape/Aldwych?
