Zero Frills and an overview from the Gerrard Square bridge…
For reference the tapering ahead of the Strachan to Dufferin construction is <25% as long – even if you subtract the winding Gardiner-DVP ramp, which is of course not suitable for a merge. To facilitate safe traffic flow during nightly lane closures, temporary restrictions will be implemented on the F.G. Gardiner Expressway to accommodate merging and terminating tapers.
The iconic skyline view enjoyed from the Leaside Bridge over the Don Valley will soon be even more dynamic, as the early stages of construction advance for what will likely prove one of the most significant bridges ever built in Toronto.
Set to stand an impressive 38 metres above the valley floor, Don Valley Crossing's balanced cantilever design will mark the first high-level crossing of the valley constructed since the Leaside Bridge was built in 1927.
Along the eastern slope of the valley, a section of wooded area has been clear-cut, and the early stages of construction have begun for a tunnel portal at Minton Place in the Thorncliffe Park area.
This slope is where Ontario Line trains will eventually emerge from the eastern tunnelled section running underground and emerge over the large bridge.
I think they're sufficient. But ML will probably come up with something else. Like "Fashion District" and "Wheat Sheaf".Do we know if MX plans to update the names of these stations, or are they final? "Queen/Spadina" and "King/Bathurst" are pretty uninspiring.
As far as we know it’s a placeholder, but it’s also incredibly succinct and descriptive.Do we know if MX plans to update the names of these stations, or are they final? "Queen/Spadina" and "King/Bathurst" are pretty uninspiring.
Was genuinely asking, and "as far as we know" seems to indicate that there isn't a firm answer yet. If there's one thing UTers love to do, its re-hash an old debate! As far as we know it’s a placeholder, but it’s also incredibly succinct and descriptive.
Let’s not start this futile debate for the umpteenth time though. Start a new thread if you want to discuss naming conventions, seriously people, start a new thread
I enjoy that they put a freight train in that rendering. A call back to when freight trains actually used that stretch.Okay Lots of cool details from this report.New construction pictures to exact timelines of construction
If youre planning on using the DVP on weekends over the next 2 years LOL
Starting with what we already know:

OOOH pretty rendering. Launching the 1st half of the bridge January next year
View attachment 649232
The 2nd half should be done before August. Apperently they need to install scaffolding to assist with paint and lighting touch-ups

Removing that temporary trestle in December 2026
Full completion of the bridge by 2027

I checked the same report from april 2023. These timelines match up almost exactly when apperently they were in the bidding process
That april 2023 report says RSSOM tracks and wires were to be installed October 2026 - June 2027
I think the angle of the shot is misleading, but yeah, still doesn't look like a lot of distance. The renderings looked further to me.Going to be fun operating cranes right next to those high tension lines. And the final bridge looks like it will have trains running literally just feet away from them.
The foundation looks at least twice the width of the pier and guideway, which will presumably be centred on top of that foundation. Consider that the nearby construction trailers are wider than a train car.Going to be fun operating cranes right next to those high tension lines. And the final bridge looks like it will have trains running literally just feet away from them.
