No idea why track work hasn't started to get the southbound lanes reopen to allow work on the missing section of the guideway on Hurontario and building the missing section to Hillcrest. the area is totally graded. to allow temporary sidewalk to be pave.

The rest of the protection cannot be built until southbound traffic has been shifted back to the original lanes that is in a line with the south lane edge for the 403 off ramp lanes

All of May 02 photos on line

Fairview intersection could see some concrete pour next week as well the base as all duct work done.

Depending on the weather and paving equipment, John St intersection should be open by tomorrow night or early Thursday.

Still no track work for Paisley intersection.

Based on weather and track crews, all the track work between the Queensway and Sherobee will be pour in place by Saturday or early next week, Concrete been poured for the second of 5 sections while track crews working on the fourth section and a crew placing the steel mats for Sherobee intersection

By mid to end of June, all tracks will be pour in place from Square One Dr to south of Sherobee intersection.

More OS poles up south of King St.

Steel mats finally been installed in the guideway from Hwy 403 ramp to the centre of Hurontario St.

All of the northbound track for Bristol Station now has the topcoat pour for it and haft of the southbound track, The last section could be done tomorrow subject to weather.

Derry station saw the ramp walls being sanded and all platform edges in place that I could see from the bus.

The guideway south of the 407 off ramp has seen the base poured for it.

Saw nothing for any OS work including on Topflight.

Brampton
Steel mats been place in the guideway north of the 407 off ramp with the rails stockpile at the north end.

Digging of the guideway south of Ray Lawson well under way,

The guideway on the north side of Ray Lawson dug out and waiting concrete curbs.

The guideway between Sir Lou and the plaza driveway has the curbs poured for it and looks like duct banks in place, It may see centre curbs pour next week follow by the guideway base.

The Sir Lou station is setup to have a crosswalk for it at the north end and the only station to have it. No clue why there is a crosswalk to be there in the first place.

Both guideways on both side of the fire station driveway have centre curbs poured for them. They the base pour next week for those guideways depending how they want to do the form the Sir Lou Station base.

The left turn lane for the northbound traffic for Lancashire Ln intersection is the longest of any left turns to date.

Lancashire Ln intersection is fully close and been dug up.

Nothing Has taken place for the Steeles Station area and is ready for the northbound curb for the left turn as all the other curbs in place since May 2 visit.

Photos to follow once i get the 250 in front of then done.

As construction has finally reached Steeles Avenue, it’s now very clear what a disaster it’s going to be.

All of us that live here in Brampton know how much of a disaster this is going to be. The whole point of moving the terminus to the north side was to make it safe to cross the street from where the 2/502 is from Gateway Terminal. I remember a discussion several pages back where Metrolinx disagreed on this assertion and wouldn't fund it, but I can't find that discussion at present.

As it stands right now, the below illustration is effectively what will happen once the terminus is completed. Brampton/Brampton Transit knows this, people who have been paying attention know this, and ML/MobiLinx and the province should know this, but are too afraid to have anything done about it, or do know this, and are willingly saying no because they're underestimating how much ridership the 2/502 moves.

The red lines are effectively where people will be standing and waiting for the LRT once it is completed. It looks like it'll be up to the second phase to correct this blatant error in planning.

On another note, as Drum stated earlier, Lancashire Ln is closed, and in about 4 days (May 19th),they'll be closing Ray Lawson/County Ct partially until June 23rd for watermain work (yet again, lol), along with the installation of the OCS foundations / bases, track work, curbs, asphalt and whatever else they need to do.

Hazel McCallion was an enemy of Brampton, and so will this LRT named in her honour.

Not to excuse the monumental fuck up that Metrolinx is causing with the Steeles Ave station, but isn't there anything the City can do to make the stop safer (assuming it doesn't get resolved when you guys get the downtown extension)?

Just off the top of my head, but can they not widen sidewalk and/or install medians / pedestrian refuge islands on Steeles so that people crossing from the bus terminal don't die trying to catch the LRT on the other side of Steeles?

I fully agree that this has been a mistake since 2019 not shifting the station to the northside. Both the Province and Metrolinx have a legal and moral obligation to protect riders and pedestrians not to sadly injury or kill trying to cross this intersect to transfer from/to the LRT from any corner, especially trying to get to/from Gateway Terminal.

I have try since 2019 to get the station move but get the BS as it will delay the opening schedule for December 2024 now sometime in 2028 as well the $30 million to do it. Metrolinx has already stated this in a public letter in 2019. Since both parties have known since 2024 that the line would not be opening as planned and being year late, there was/is no reason why Mobilinx contract could not be amended to add the extra funds and obligation to move the station to the northside even with Brampton willing to pickup up the cost to do it.

Even though ML has had issues with Mobilinx performances these past 4 years, it still could have issued that change order before now, but most of all it still can regardless if the opening will be delay another 4 months. Safety is the number one issue for moving the station to the north and if both parties are not willing to do that, then they need the price in their pocketbook to cover the full cost of anyone injured or kill even though we are the ones that will be paying for it in the end.

Brampton needs to step up for better protections of all parties for that intersection even if it means removing a lane in all directions regardless the impact on traffic.

There is another option that could happen if the station is not move as it should be now, that a new north station is built when the extension happens in 2030-35 and close the current one, but either way there is still the same cost to put the line across Steeles with the cost being higher at the time it is built. Pay once or three times the cost to save 4 months of delay and the $30 million out of everyone pockets refusing to move the station.

Not a fan to have this line name after Hazel.

Wasn’t it Brampton city council that requested the stop to be moved to the south side after they voted against the downtown segment? It was a bad idea then and Metrolinx should’ve paved through with the at-grade segment to Brampton GO instead of listening to those councilors. But Brampton got what it wanted despite the terrible transfer it resulted in.

I've explained in an earlier comment why paving through the downtown core with a surface route does not work in downtown Brampton, and that they were right to turn it down, not because of NIMBYISM, but because there just is not enough space in the downtown core to accommodate it with at grade separation for two separate light rail tracks.

Metrolinx powering through with an at grade rail would have to explain to everyone using the downtown core on why they can no longer drive through the downtown core when the entirety of lanes is taken up by them.

Fairview intersection base has been poured and lets see how long it will take to get tracks across considering Paisley still waiting for it going on close to three weeks.

Metrolinx put the station on the southside after Brampton chose not to have the LRT on Main St north of Steeles.. ML did this to deal with another route Bampton wanted to use the the LRT other than Main but ended wanting to use Main as both surface and tunnel. The city wanted the station moved back to the northside at their cost but ML said it was too late to meet the December 2024 opening. I stand by my comments that it was BS and still happen regardless it may push the opening to the end of 2029 or Q1 of 2029.

I've explained in an earlier comment why paving through the downtown core with a surface route does not work in downtown Brampton, and that they were right to turn it down, not because of NIMBYISM, but because there just is not enough space in the downtown core to accommodate it with at grade separation for two separate light rail tracks.

An ROW on Main in the downtown area would reduced the road capacity from four lanes to two lanes along with on street parking with the NIMBY opposing it as everyone including the city wanting two lanes in both directions. Today, Brampton is going to build a single lane in each direction. The other option was to have the LRV's run in mix traffic allowing to maintain the on street parking which ML opposed considering it was only a short section and would add an extra few minutes more in travel time. You can find both models in service in Europe and it works fine there. The Netherlands is a good example of both options where we walked it as well rode them to see it first hand. Rotterdam is a good example for mixed traffic with on street parking as a 4 lane road

This is an example where cities can do more harm in putting the right transit in place at a low cost than the current cost. It is also reinforced my 2006 prestation during committee meetings and written submission back in 2006 that cities be held arm length along with MTO and the Province from build transit lines during the Bill Reading on creating the now ML. I also called that people who had real transit knowledge need to be on the BOD as well running ML otherwise we get what we have today. Big different between Europe and NA is the size of vehicles with NA very large ones that take more space than Europe.

Cannot find the other one that has a narrow street than this one.

With the frequencies envisioned, can't we just have a bidirectional single track through downtown Brampton, a la Amsterdam? Could expand to double track at stations to allow passing if the distance is too long. A billion dollars for downtown Brampton is absurd.

If population growth trends for Brampton were to hold, a metro for downtown Brampton would not be absurd... (Is it too soon complain about this?) I wish Hurontario were a fully grade separated metro...
