Ah, I assumed it was awarded, and that Ford's announcement came with the award. I guess I've not been paying enough attention - until recently I thought they'd already started constructon!

Both extensions were in Mobilinx contract, but were removed when they were cancel back in 2019. Mobilinx will not be going after those extensions with ML wanting someone else doing the work.

If there there a contractor to do the loop, ML has them hidden in the backroom until the revised EA to extend the loop is completed by year end. Latest word for ML that they are to appearing before all 3 councils in spring 2026 compared to November 2025. Even then it will be lip service to say we are doing something with no dates and timeframe been given.

The line cannot go into service until the loop is built that includes a 5-6 month of disruption for the Burnhamthorpe intersection to rebuild it and place the wye that was to be done in 2024 when tracks were place there. Unless a 7/24 construction is taking place to deal the single lane of traffic in all directions and will be a mess. Topflight wye was built twice and took over six months both times to do with a fully close intersection with a single lane of traffic in both direction in the southbound lanes on Hurontario. Cannot do that with Burnhamorpe today.

Feb 13
Matheson intersection is being rebuilt for the south haft that is close as I pass it tonight. No left turn in both directions on Hurontario with no right turn on a red. All trucks are not allow to do a right turn at all. I guess the work I saw last week was perpetration for this week closure.

Not surprised to see it been done as it was the first intersection to be done at the end of 2019 with the station tracks had to fix that connected to the intersection a few time in 2023 before the tracks where encased in concrete. Will not be surprised to see all intersections rebuilt from the 401 to south of Eglinton. As for intersections south of Square One Dr to Central Pkwy that were completed by the end of 2024, its a guessing game other than Burnhamorpe at this time.

If they plan on testing the fleet this year, it will most likely be in the fall with the amount of trackwork that needs to be rebuilt and finish to Eglinton south of Topflight alone installing the overhead system. Weather will play a big part as to what can be done by spring where weather will not be an issue.

Feb 6
Saw six hydro bucket trucks working on the hydro system south of Bronte College and the first time I seen this many in one place to date.

Nothing new for hydro at the North Service Rd. Work has finally stated this week on building the new lane south of the North Service Rd for the westbound ramp to the QEW. Once they get get it built and open the closed southbound lanes north of the North Service Rd, traffic can be shifted to the new lanes to allow building the rest of the guideway to the North Service Rd.

There is still work to be done for the westbound off ramp from the QEW as well the northbound turning lane to go west on the QEW as well the ramp itself.

Crews rebuilding the east QEW pier where the northbound lanes used to be with a fair bit of rebar exposed in a number of locations along with patch area to be fill with concrete. Once this is complicated, work can start building the high barrier wall between the southbound traffic lanes and the guideway along with the guideway. On and off lanes for the QEW will do some shifting as the guideway is built where traffic to/from the QEW will cross it once its built. Then there is still the sidewalks that need to be built to connect to the new sidewalks in the underpass for both sides.

By the time the LRV's go into service, they could 4-5 year old just like Line 5 LRV's on Feb 8. It will be interesting if the fleet will have axles issues like Ottawa is having when testing and service starts.

Feb 14
Its amassing what one week of change can take place with good weather.

Had to go to pickup something before elsewhere to the point I had to do a U-turn to check a few things out as well shooting them since the corridor was on my radar this week.

Hydro was working on the south-west corner Bronte College with police on duty with a single lane of traffic for southbound. A few poles were brace into position. Also, I noticed new east-west poles on the Queensway that will support the current wires going across Hurontario waiting to be strung.

More excavation has taken place for the new lane to the QEW westbound.

Most of the glazing and panels are now in place on the south entrance for PC station.

What caused me to do the U-turn what was happening north of Mineola. Going north on the 6th there were no signs or displays around but today there were for both direction saying no left turns between Mineola and Indian Grove starting Feb 8.

The reason for the no left turns is the removal of the asphalt where the guideway is going in. Most of it has been removed with jack hamming of the remaining area still has to be remove.. All the southbound poles in the curb lane have been removed to allow work to start on the new guideway considering they were still there on the 6th. The poles are still in place on both ends of the new work area.

Looking at the area south of Mineola, it is now 4 feet deep at the north end and moving south. The west side guideway is about 2 feet deep. Was told work started on February 1st for the guideway south of Mineola.

Did not have much time to do my normal shooting and got what I could before moving on. All photos are now on line,

Heading home, I had a quick look at the trackwork between King and Paisley with tacks in place to just north of Paisley but not align nor pour in place.

The trap area by the walkway is now gone with a large slab area to allow the fire department to do a U-turn that doing a double back by the way of Joan Dr.

The more this project fails, the less bitter I am about the name Doug Ford christened it.

You mean the line was to open Dec 2024.

The 2025 plan was have all the trackwork completes along with the overhead system by July from the OMSF to Eglinton. Testing was to start in July of the fleet.

The guideway was to be fully built from Eglinton to the QEW for 2025 as well.

Only a small section of Trader intersection is been rebuilt and should be open this week.

Tearing up the northbound track at Matheson. There was a four car accident at the intersection with the vehicles bocking the westbound lane with westbound traffic using the eastbound lane. Eastbound traffic was being forced to go south but a few did a U-turn after the last pillion to go north and then east that almost cause a few head on collision. Still have clueless drivers maying the illegal left turn onto Hurontario and most likely the caused of the accidents

Only one more level of Geofoam Blocks to be place for the 403 ramp to Hurontario to be at grade. Then they can start the guideway work for both the ramp and crossing Hurontario southbound lanes.

Brampton new southbound curb lane from the fire station to the Police driveway is having stormwater installed including Sir Lou Dr that was close last week. Nothing else from Brampton.

It cannot be communicated correctly as it still talk only with no directions if the loop will be ready for the mainline open day.. Need to revise the EA for the loop to deal with the extension and then tendering it with construction starting in 2027 with a possibility by end of this year. It will take 2-3 years to do it and that puts it in 2029/30 that includes testing the loop for service. Got to find a place to put the substation in to handle the extension.

Then there the issue what service will look like. Will there be a bypass service that is needed along with the split service. What will happen down the road for the split service when it is found that one section needs more service than the other.

Unfortunately, nope. Metrolinx would just double down.

If we all thought Finch West and Eglinton were bad, Hurontario is literally the little baby of both of the aforementioned lines. It's already evident that this line is a mess from a construction perspective, and it will be just a bad as a mess operationally.

Honestly, once you see them ripping up and replacing track in multiple sections of the line, it makes you wonder if we'll even make it to 2030 at this point. There's almost no faith left in the line, and we're seeing the same mistakes that happened with line 5/6 happen with the Hurontario LRT. Imagine just how many more issues they'd have if they built this line elevated, or below grade.

I'm actually concerned that nobody learns anything from past mistakes and we just keep seeing them make the same mistakes instead of learning from them.

2027 is looking like a near impossibility.

Hurontario started construction basically at the same time as Finch. I don't think there was much opportunity to learn from either Eglinton or Finch.

And what could we even change on Hurontario based on lessons from Finch or Eglinton? The stops are already significantly further apart. My main issue is how it handles Square One, and I think there should be the possibility to bypass Square One for people who don't need to go there. Although I get how that's complicated by the location of the bus terminal.
