So they really have laid down some tracks today between Fairview and Central Pkwy:

Amazing. All these photos really are motivating me to go grab some more aerial shots.

Because I was getting annoyed with photos and making too many comments at once, I bit the bullet and decided to add a flickr link with the full resolution photos.

Brampton has been pretty unremarkable in this regard. I decided that taking a video would be much better than multiple photos.

oh god this is running so far behind.. What is taking so long? that brampton drone shot looks like they have barely done anything in 6 years..

i posted publicly on the troubles w/the consortium here.

The story:

Messing up these LRTs just gives ammunition to the subways subways subways crowd. Is there a world this all gets Ford a fourth majority.

Except for the fact that the Scarborough Extension is delayed also.

I suspect the Ontario Line wont be far behind either when the ultimate cock-up contractor begins on their part of the project.

I somehow think people will justify and understand those delays than what looks like simply slapping tracks down the middle of the road.

Why do people constantly incorrectly think that metrolinx is the constructor of our transit projects. We’re getting screwed by private consortiums and they’re laughing to the bank while people get mad at the government instead of the constructors themselves.

If it was a single project that was delayed, then I'd look at the contractor. Most major projects Metrolinx does are non-trivially delayed OR scope changes [components are moved to a future project] to meet the schedule.

I understand the whole promise fast&cheap to get political buy-in then apologize later; but you don't sue the vendor when playing those games.

Because the buck ultimately stops with Metrolinx. They are the ones responsible for choosing the contractor, writing the contract such that there are appropriate penalties for not completing the task in time, having alternative options if their chosen contractor struggles with putting pants on in the morning, and informing the public of the progress. If you have an employee who can't meet deadlines and do nothing to discipline them or replace them with someone who can, it's not the employee's fault anymore.

Nearly every ML project is delayed, descoped, or secretive about its progress. Blaming the contractor is just a way to deflect from Metrolinx's ultimate culpability.

I needed to get my steps in, so went on a little walk to get different angles. Not sure if any work has been done since my last pics, but at least a different view.
