When will they stop letting architects design classrooms like this?
When a classroom is wide like this only students in the middle of the room can see the white board and/or engage with the instructor. Then, to pour oil on situation, the white board and screen are placed facing the main source of light into the room, and "for budgetry reasons" no blackout window covering is provided. The resulting glare renders the screens unusable for a chunk of the day unless it is heavily cloudy.
On top of this, the instructor is supposed to encourage "collaboration and interactivity", so the furniture is lined up so everyone faces the back of the head of the person in front. No self-respecting student actually sits directly next to another student so they can speak/discuss/participate in group work or discussions with them unless you threaten to remove their participation grade for the entire term. And you receive a note from the head of department that physical resources has complained if you move the furniture during class....
