When will they stop letting architects design classrooms like this?
When a classroom is wide like this only students in the middle of the room can see the white board and/or engage with the instructor. Then, to pour oil on situation, the white board and screen are placed facing the main source of light into the room, and "for budgetry reasons" no blackout window covering is provided. The resulting glare renders the screens unusable for a chunk of the day unless it is heavily cloudy.
On top of this, the instructor is supposed to encourage "collaboration and interactivity", so the furniture is lined up so everyone faces the back of the head of the person in front. No self-respecting student actually sits directly next to another student so they can speak/discuss/participate in group work or discussions with them unless you threaten to remove their participation grade for the entire term. And you receive a note from the head of department that physical resources has complained if you move the furniture during class....
/sigh

Some interesting details of CLT construction I observed on a ceiling beam above the main entrance area right next to the central staircase. Unsanded plank butts and oozing glue.
A bit shoddy for such a prominently visible beam:

^Is that a deconstructivist thing...or they just simply haven't finished it yet?

So tomorrow is the big day for this building and East Bayfront in general! ~5,000 new students throughout the week that will be a boost for restos/cafés and general liveliness. And this is on top of the new residents at the two condos that opened this summer.

Lord knows how the 114 (and soon to be seasonally discontinued) 202 will cope this influx.

Good thing the TTC will be massively increasing service on this route and the Waterfront East LRT is well on it's way to being built....oh wait.

It's crazy how much development there has already been and is yet to come for the East Bayfront with no major increase in transit.

On the plus side, this building is gorgeous.

The faculty to think things through creaks very slowly here... /sigh

It's almost as if the city and province think people will magically end up from Point A to Point B, and congestion just randomly occurs.

But yes this building is very special indeed. I highly suggest to visit in the afternoon peak, as it gives maximum time exposure for one to enjoy how great it looks with the traffic backups all around that area around that time.
