I only read the thread as far up as "Isn't the subway built to TTC gauge? ". Subway cars have doors on both sides.That's not, but having the doors on the wrong side in the stations most definitely is.
Correct. So if the rails are two inches further apart, then if you move the wheels on one side of the car by an inch, and then moves the wheels on the other side of the car by an inch, you have now got the same gauge.Track gauge is the distance between the RAILS.
Each wheel only needs to move an inch.
I have no idea why you'd want to do this though, other than moving TTC-gauge streetcars and subway cars to the Guelph Radial museum.
