I can't remember reading the exact bus figures (it's probably there, didn't read it all), but in the report conclusion they said that upgrading and maintaining the present bus routes on Eglinton was enough to handle demand until year 2000 in liue of a subway. That was the solution Toronto, North York, East York and Scarborough advocated for.

the original plan was for BRT on Eglinton, but it got upgraded to a subway. Other than york, the metro continued to push for the BRT.

Development planning was also very different back in the 1980's, focused in urban growth centres like NYCC with huge office buildings and condos instead of the smaller scale midrise style they are trying for today.

Isn't it going to be the typical red and white TTC look?

The Crosstown will be owned by Metrolinx not the TTC, although it will be fully integrated and staffed by TTC people. Metrolinx wants people to be aware that it is their product paid for by the Province.

That video was pretty cool. A bit bland, but interesting enough. This is a pretty major project, and one of the costliest transit projects in the world. I think it might be worth it to jazz it up a bit. One thing I particularly liked was that they showed an animation of the elevated section. I don't think we've seen any renderings so far of that, and ditto for the mothballed SLRT plans. Too bad something similar couldn't have been built on the east side between Brentcliffe and Don Mills to keep that section grade-separated as well.

I still wish this was going to the airport. We need a local connection that does not $ 17 a ride

We have one already.

Actually, we have several.

Nope. The paint scheme hasn't been finalized as yet, but apparently it won't be far from the graphics that they've been giving us so far.

I'm happy that a subway/LRT project is far enough along that we can debate the paint scheme. From the graphics on the construction hoarding and all the promotional materials (plus the fact that the contracts have a requirement for a consistent branding) I'm pretty sure that they're going to go with the green colour scheme for the Eglinton Crosstown. It's kind of like how when the province gifted the SRT they gave it a special blue branding. And the UPX gets its own branding. Really, the province enjoys logos and branding things.

What I'm really more curious about is if there will be platform screen doors for the underground section, given that Metrolinx has stated that it will be operating on ATC in that section.

They're better at it than the TTC, however I would rather have some consistency. It would be fine if it was just a colour variation but UPX, SRT, TTC, GO and now Eglinton all have wildly different liveries when we should be working towards integrating them into one coherent system in both operation, fares and even something as seemingly minor as livery.
