Funny to think that Metrolinx at one point was in a panic thinking the vehicles were being delivered too slowly and that they wouldn't all arrive in time so they reduced their order and got Alstom (pre-Bombardier) to build the Finch West vehicles. Now, all the vehicles were delivered long ago and are ancient and in need of maintenance. Their panic was so detached from reality... even then as Bombardier was making progress on improving their TTC streetcar supply chains.

They were also looking for a reason to reduce the order since two lines were canceled. It significantly increased the per unit cost.

Well hindsight is 20/20. I dont think anyone anticipated the massive underpinning issues at eglinton and the covid 19 pandemic. But then again Bombardier did themselves no favors by their own delays. I said it back then, it doesnt matter what the end-user wants to do with the vehicles after deliver be it run it or have them sit dormant for years in storage, bbr had a contractual obligation to deliver the vehicles by a certain date. They failed to do so hence why they lost their contract.

My source for the Line6 update is from inside the TTC. Cannot post the official notice here unfortunately.

I’m sure the media will get the notice for the morning news.

I'm partially retired, and always been a night owl. It's rare I have any commitments before 10 or 10:30 AM and work at home. And I always catch up on sleep over the weekend, so if I go to bed too early on a Sunday night, I just toss and turn. So I usually while making hot chocolate or something around 3 or 3:30 AM take a look, before getting 6 hours sleep, rather than the usual 7 to 8. And occasionally I just wake at 5 am or something with only 3 hours sleep, and walking around the house, raiding the fridge, and checking email, etc., I've found works better than just lying there.
Same here. I used to work an all-night job, now I'm retired. When you work all night, you have to visit family, friends, doctors, etc. in the daytime, so you're also up here and there during the day, as well as the night. I've been retired for 2 and a half years, but have not been able to go back to a normal daytime schedule. I'm getting better at it, but now and then, I'm up in the middle of the night, and you might see me post.

When I was a kid, streets were deserted at night. Now, if you live near a major road, especially on a 400 series road, you will see continuous traffic all night long. Where do all those people come from, and where do they go? Beats me. Put me down as one who appreciates Toronto's "blue line" all night service, and I wish the subways would run all night too, as they have always done in New York City..

As for the original question, I joined this site earlier this year, and posting times confused me until I figured out this site sets all accounts to show Greenwich Mean Time by default. A post at 7:00 PM shows as midnight. Go to your profile to fix it.

I mean if the CSR's are part of a RSD it seems to imply that the operators will be. Can't really do a RSD with just CSRs, what would that even consist of.

It massively increased the per unit cost. Not only are the Alstom units significantly more expensive than the Bombardier units; Bombardier successfully sued Metrolinx for penalties - much of it because Bombardiers cost per unit went up, with less units to amortize the fixed costs over.

I threw the numbers together - in the Flexity thread about a decade ago after Metrolinx cancelled the Flexities.

Meanwhile they could have used those vehicles on Hurontario and the Eglinton extension. Along with Hamilton that was never in the order.
