A better question is who is saying late January? That seems completely implausible! Unless it's to hand to TTC to start months of trial running.

What's the point in going there? The TTC decision was based on what Metrolinx was telling them. It's not like suddenly they'd have it ready in 2 months rather than no sooner than 6 months.

What I might suggest is that car-sharing might be an alternative worth looking into. For a modest monthly sum, less than you'd spend on car insurance in all likelihood, you get access to a second car as-needed, rather than carrying the cost of a second car all the time.

Communauto has a big flex zone, which a lot of people like; but Zipcar and Enterprise are also options.

The thing with car sharing (as well as taxis and Ubers) when you have a new baby is installing the car seat in a new car every time. It makes having your own car a lot more attractive. But if you want to check it out, the Cosco Scenera is super lightweight and easy to move between cars. Unless you really need that second car to drive around the baby daily, it might be a good option.

I had car share memberships for years before I got a job in the suburbs and needed to buy a car. When my current car bites the dust, I think I would go with car sharing/Uber/rentals rather than buying another car. But my baby is all grown up now, so we won't need the car seat for much longer.

TTC Chair Jamaal Myers has indicated that June 1, 2025, is the "earliest possible date" for the opening of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT.

I doubt they'll open in the summer because of all the TTC service changes that need to occur immediately once the crosstown opens, My guess is early September 2025, right before schools open.

I doubt the TTC (and city) are going to take the political suicide pill of further delaying the opening of Crosstown any longer than it needs to be.

We've seen the TTC operate out of planned service levels before (the line 3 derailment and the many months after where unscheduled operators/vehicles were used to satisfy service), and it could be done again, even though the Line 5 changes are more extensive.

I'd think the financial penalties they'd have to pay would be a more significant factor.

But I don't know why we are discussing it. There's been zero indication that TTC or city would delay it. This is getting sillier.

One thing to keep in mind is that there will also be festivities. For the TYSSE, there was a fare-free day (I don't remember if it was systemwide or for that section only), memorabilia (a poster), and of courses performances, face painting etc at VMC station.

totally love how this is now pushed to a Q3 opening date, just wonderful. If this line isn't open before Q4, that would just be miserable. At least have the line operating before school starts in September.
