The corridor is opening this weekend.

Nike is on the left, Eataly on the right and Simons down the hall. Simon’s is the most advanced, nearly complete.

They managed to pull it off. It’s quite wide and welcoming, feels like a continuation of the mall.

The remaining scaffolding is being taken down overnight or tomorrow night if they don’t finish.

Uniqlo is undergoing construction in the Dundas atrium.

The store is still open so it’s not interior work. I can’t imagine what they’d be doing to require closing their entire frontage other than perhaps receding further back into the existing store and giving back some of that hallway space to Cadillac Fairview to open up the Dundas atrium.

Bonus shot of Simons behind the little remaining Dundas hoarding.

I was in there last week. It would appear it’ll at least some of it was is interior work, as about half of the top floor was closed off, before the entrance was (mostly) boarded up. If I were to guess, I’d say they’re likely resizing that massive entrance to something smaller to dissuade shoplifting, and that it might involve some structural work. A huge entrance like they had right across from several sets of doors has always screamed easy target.

Great pics and thanks for the updates. As of this evening when I was heading home, it was still not open, but very much looking forward to it so I look over every time lol.

Quite a bit more of the scaffolding and heavy iron beams had been taken down as of this evening. No pictures but happy to report that they're making progress.

All the scaffolding has now been taken down—the last of what was set up over the years-long atrium glass replacement project.

There’s some detailing work left to do on Eataly’s side of the façade. The corridor is now just closed off by some fencing and a tarp.

Nike is progressing but clearly a lot of work left to do.

Outside, Eataly’s cladding has been revealed. Its façade will be clad in brown wood-like slats that dovetail nicely with Roots across from it.

...it sure looks like it's held together by spit, glue and a prayer though. >.<
It is a church, after all.

Meanwhile, inside:

Honestly, I misjudged that green tile. It's quite nice and it's been done so well that it looks like it's always been there. I'd even say that with the tile and the windows to the BMO office above, it looks better than the original Eatons entrance façade or anything since.

Update on Uniqlo construction: It's a full renovation. It's happening in stages and they're revealing a new store in September, around the time Simons and Eataly are supposed to open.

"We can’t wait to show you our new look this fall. Join us in celebration at the reopening for limited offers, treats and more!" — Uniqlo

I hope they improve on this:

It boggles the mind to have such a prominent location then close it up with walls and displays. Uniqlo has a coffee shop on the second floor of their Fifth Avenue, New York location. The same could be done here, overlooking the Yonge & Dundas atrium. This place used to have such life to it with its terraced cafes.

BMO also plastered off its view and Cadillac Fairview will go to great lengths to omit any seating whatsoever in this space, so people just sit on ledges and the floor. Sheer incompetence.
