So the poor saps are blowing 70% of their income on rent instead - my point stands.
And what's your point?

These will be super nice units with great amenities, as are the ones at Maple House. A portion of units are affordable and while the rest won't be cheap, they aren't that crazy. You can look at what's available at maple house. 1 beds as low as $2100, 2 beds for $2900

I agree! As someone who works in the neighbourhood and walks by this complex daily I can say that it does a great job in defining space and the quibbles about cladding based on phone pix aren’t based on the reality.

I've walked all around this structure lately...day and night. Rental or not, it's just not appealing to the eyes. All the other new rentals and condos are much nicer looking. They could have just copied the rest of the design in the area....not that hard.

This is embarrassing! Who ever designed this, then approved this, and let this be built should all lose their jobs. You've built public a storage building. Horrible
My mother also thinks it looks like a storage building. She lives in one of the towers in the Distillery, and sees this every day. I don't love it, but we'll see how it looks when done

Edit: "love", not "live"

Everyone in the neighbourhood is excited for it to open as it will have a lot of very urban retail, an interesting courtyard and will go a long way to tying Distillery, Canary and Corktown into a single neighbourhood. And the cladding looks very different in person depending on the weather/light.

This one looks massive - is it one of the largest, or the largest, horizontal residential building in the city?

I go back and forth on this project.

On the one hand, the materials are above par and it meets the street fairly well. However, when stepping back, the scale, boxiness and colour make it look a tad institutional, like a hospital or university building.

I also go back and forth with this project...but I'm really happy with the massing. Overall, I like this project...the colour does bother me however. The top part feels a bit stiff and underdeveloped for a design, but the podium works, and in following a relative grid it's much more appealing in terms of having a design language to denote humanistic qualities, as opposed to the top section.

So the western building is fully enclosed so maybe opening by August? Also a shot of the first level retail that is surrounded by windows on three sides so will make a fantastic space! Are many citizens in our grumpy little burgh ready for this?!
