Hi everyone this is my first post!

So does this delay in tunnelling threaten the entire project timeline? My understanding was that the stations would be dig from the tunnel and then expanded upon.

Also is there any indication when the TBM could be up and running again?

I certainly hope that the TBMs for the ontario line won't also run into these same issues....
Welcome to UT!
You can do the stations at the same time as tunnels see the Ontario Line where the TBM's are only being inserted late next year
Theres no rush tbh since even for the crosstown west, Stations dont even have shovels in the ground for another 1.5 years

SSE has ways to go until 2030

I can’t remember a project that ever made its timeline. So based on the past I would assume that they will not hit their 2030 date. Same with Ontario line. Just add half a decade to the timeline and you might not be disappointed.

Unfortunately, when things go wrong or were poorly planned, Metrolinx sometimes avoids communicating updates/revisions... allegedly because of political pressure/image. Examples include line 5, line 7, GO Lakeshore East express trains.

I would bet if you asked them about the line 2 extension, they'd regurgitate the original timeline messaging (along with its benefits) and nothing more... But don't let that stop you from sending an email and sharing here any new tidbits they provide.

The TBM is paused for maintenance according to Metrolinx. It sounds like this was expected. Earlier in the year, they indicated that they had to have a continuous dig under the 401, so a pause would seem to make sense (and maybe was planned).

It wasn't planned.

There was (and maybe still is) planned to be a mid-trip stop just south of Lawrence in order to perform regularly scheduled maintenance to the TBM.

But something major has happened with the TBM to cause them to excavate to it at this point. My suspicion is the main bearing on the cutterhead, as that seems to be the most common source of major failure on large diameter TBMs.

Interesting. Contrary to what I have in writing....

Is it? I thought they told you it was paused for maintenance. Did they tell you something else as well?

If one was driving to Montreal, and the car fell to pieces, you would be paused for maintenance.:)
I inquired specifically about the rumors being stopped: 'Work is currently paused for planned maintenance' [emphasis added].

Note I don't often take anything they respond with too seriously as it typically has little information... Again, I'm suprised that they are purposefully misinforming.

I think that to a PR person, "paused for maintenance" covers the situation where there's a major failure and no work can be done until it's fixed. If it was small and expected, you would say "routine maintenance".

They just reconstructed the back parking lot of the community centre Don Montgomery CRC next to Kennedy station for the anticipation of the closing of the front parking lot starting in January for like 7yrs or whatever the case may be
