My local rack has a couple spots that haven't worked in a long time, and half the time I go out there there's a bike in one of those spots thats free for anyone to take, still being charged to whoever left it there. I usually re-dock it if there's a spot available, but I'm sure not everyone does.

There is, I think, no way to easily alert BikeShare to a defective dock. (Except, I suppose, by phoning/texting them and describing which dock_. If the docks were numbered it might be simpler?.

You could say it's the 7th one from the South end, for example. I have a feeling they can't fix on singular bike dock on sit and need to remove the entire 4 dock section to be serviced back at their maintenance depot.

That reminds me that I keep meaning to alert them about a broken one on the North/West corner of Bloor & Christie. In this case, the bike is stuck in the dock. When you try to get it out, it makes a variety of horrible noises for 30 seconds before giving up. It's been like this for at least 6 months.

I think for most the issues with the dock not engaging and locking with the bike is fixed on site. I've come across seized up docks that were fixed within days with no signs of being swapped out. Perhaps the really damaged ones get brought in.

I've also noticed they've been better at deactivating broken docks so they show a red light and don't appear in the app. I assume they've updated they SOP to include dock checking whenever bikes are repositioned so maintenance has a better idea of which docks to visit.

The rack at The Esplanade and Berkeley is back! I was worried they’d make us wait until the park renovations were done to put it back. A much needed and heavily used rack for the neighbourhood.

Let's talk bike share theft for a second. Passed this guy on new Cherry St earlier. Bike Share bike completely spray painted in silver. Possibly coming from the nearby respite centre.

Hopefully the same bike, docked this morning at Jarvis and Gerrard.
Edit: same green scarf around the seat and the appearance of the back of the seat as the bike in the quoted post. I think this the same

Bikeshare Toronto now soliciting feedback on new station/dock locations 2026-2030.

More docks is great, bikes in docks is better. Nearby docks were empty frequently enough that most of my trips needed to be timed with the assumption of walking. The app tells you the state of the docks at that moment, not how they'll be in an hour or 2 for the return trip. I chose not to renew my membership this year for that reason.

They need some incentive program for redistribution; perhaps one that would attract an Uber Eats contractor waiting for an order to do that work for until they receive an order.

I think there are some very clear... preferences? for certain areas. Meadoway makes sense, probably a lot of demand for more stations there. Willowdale and Don Valley Village stand out a lot, though this might be one person suggesting a lot of stations...

And finally, I think I know who suggested the stations in the middle of Etobicoke.

Some others not circled, but good to point out: Toronto islands and Tommy Thompson; the lone station suggested in Rouge Park, a distinct lack of suggestions in Rexdale (though lots of planned stations there), and a lot of suggestions in south Etobicoke which shows that the results of the provincial election might be a sign of a big shift in attitudes to cycling in Etobicoke

Only one of those is mine...

Some of this is certainly areas with relatively limited coverage and lack of redundant docks. I'm responsible for 4-5 suggestions in the East York area.

Areas that mostly lack bikeshare may not generate a lot of suggestions for more spots due to lack of existing users, who will be the most vocal, generally, for more docks.

Around my place, the dock situation is pretty good, but they often have no bikes. We're just in the range where it's a pretty easy ride downtown, and a lot of people do. But that only explains weekday mornings. There's often a shortage at other times too. Maybe people are not riding them home again in the afternoon? We're south of the Davenport escarpment, so it's not a very onerous ride!
