I am excited to know which project they will be working on next - I was downtown yesterday and I noticed that derelict building on john st that was attached to the royal connaught is now just GONE - it's just like a bit of brick rubble in a vacant lot - priiiime real estate for a core urban buuuild! It is kinda tucked away though..

I didn't even know they demolished it...

I think Brad Lamb had been planning to put a boutique hotel in there, and was ordered to demolished the prior structure.

In a world where Spallacci can get the Connaught towers off the ground, that lot would be a natural extension of their assembly. Would be a good spot for something interacting with John St and sympathetic to the hotel, but as you say it’s fairly tucked away. Not sure it’d be my first candidate to pitch CU. Though John (esp. north of KW and south of Main) would certainly be a good corridor to get more tasteful development on.

hmm so far I am not thrilled at his podium - something here would need heritage construction - not a modern build, and certainly not brutalistic panels.
The Television City podium is due to the complainants of the locals regarding the modern (initial) version, can't blame Lamb for that one

The man made like 50 different renders and he chose THIS one - I will CERTAINLY blame him for THIS one lol.
neighbourhood context - city didn't like how the tower hit the ground in the first version. Wanted it to relate more to the historic mansion on site (hence the stone) and to reference the height of the street of little houses just to the east (wesanford place)

Regarding Television City podium
I saw at least five different variations of the podum design - the one they are doing now wasnt even ONE of those renders - I don't even know what their proposal was supposed to look like visually.

Also if they wanted it to reflect the mansion they could have stuck with the stone blocks render or the brick render - who thought brutalistic concrete panels would match a mansion, seriously..? What, did they look at mcmaster childrens hospital and go "yup, we need more of THAT"?

Anyways we're getting off topic - back to the amazing core urban build before someone yells at me lol

I liked the stone blocks render.
I'm assuming that was "value engineered" out of the equation but who knows.
