I find the CN tower view argument to be inflated and baseless. The tower is already obstructed from most vantage points that pedestrians can experience it from. At no point along Front east of Yonge does a pedestrian have a complete and unobstructed view of the tower.
What makes the view interesting and iconic is the divergence of Front and Wellington, the Flatiron building, and the layers of skyline of the financial district behind it.
Do they think that adding a chunky monochromatic aluminum window wall tower into this view in any way helps preserve or enhance anything?
I don't really care about the height - I found the height and massing before to be acceptable, however the loss of colour and warmth on the tower is a step too far in the wrong direction. This is not Jarvis and Dundas - black and white aluminum will not do. At least use a better colour of metal or some kind of precast.
EDIT:
I guess the tower is less obstructed further east from Front and George - more so than it is at Church. Still, careful massing could have negated any severe impacts.
