It's now almost spring 2025 - what's taking them so long? 😟

Likely HBC bankruptcy
At this point I bet a lot of mall owners are happy to see them go. Southgate is probably chomping at the bit to be able to repurpose The Bay space into something like what they did with the Sears space (which looks SO good!)

Ya but like most retail bankruptcies - won't HBC come back "leaner and meaner?" Lose half their stores, reno some and "brand focus?" lol

The Bay will likely retain their Southgate and WEM locations while the other stores at the Kingsway, Londonderry and St Albert malls are shuttered.

I don't know which stores they will close or how many, but you can't shrink yourself to success. I stopped going to the Bay regularly when the downtown location closed.

People are not going to from the north side to Southgate very often just to go to the Bay, so they will lose most of the customers in the areas they close stores.

I would think if they started closing stores Southgate would be the most likely in Edmonton to stay open. Its sales are almost double than their next best store in Edmonton (WEM), or that was the case a few years ago.

Is anybody really surprised? Apart from their Queen St flagship most stores look like a bargain basement outlet.
When I went there last it fall it seemed nice but rather dead too, that was when I suspected this was coming.
