So on King Street they removed cares ENTIRELY and still streetcars are no faster. What's to blame there?

Feels like with streetcars it's always a game of "If only.... if only... if only...." but whatever they change nothing really improves.
You really are amazingly poorly informed on this. First, Streetcars on King ARE faster than they were before the transit mall, secondly the hold-ups after it became a transit mall and the police got bored with enforcement were mostly at north-south streets where cars blocked intersections. Now there are traffic agents on most of them it's faster again. Take a look at https://stevemunro.ca/2024/04/27/king-street-transit-priority-corridor-update-may-2024/ and https://stevemunro.ca/2022/11/11/king-transit-priority-travel-times-update-2016-to-2022/

We live around the corner from the King and Bathurst intersection, and have for the past fifteen years. My wife and I are frequent users of the King car, at different times of the day (I am now retired).

With all due respect sir - you do not know what you are talking about.

Both speed and consistency of the King car are materially, substantially improved over the pre-pilot days, and even more so since the traffic wardens have been deployed. There was a period when the south bound traffic in the afternoons would definitely impact the King cars - but even that has now been much improved.

I'm simply asking if it makes more economic sense to have buses.
As it's a bit of a change in subject, why are you asking it in a thread about Russell Yard?

This discussion has been had many a time - but in relevant threads (or those trolling in Transit City threads, etc.).

I think you are being genuine here, and not trolling; but given you are essentially going into a thread about a condo building, and saying "do we need condo buildings", some might think there's an ulterior motive (which I don't think).

I wish they figure out a way to actually remove cars entirely on King Street. For example close to where I live you are allowed to turn right on Blue Jays Way and drive eastbound all the way to University, where you finally can't go straight. And there are two streets on that stretch where you can even turn left blocking the streetcar.

Even if cars need to be allowed on some parts of King Street in the future to access garages or whatever, there should 100% not be ANY left turns.

I specifically recommended to the City closing a portion of this section from Peter to John. Closing just two short sections, one block east of University, one block btw there and Spadina would limit most traffic from using it as a crosstown travel route or a route to access the Gardiner.

To my recollection, there are no garage accesses off King here.

The only part you have to leave open is Emily to University, as Emily is one-way ending at King.

TIFF and the Hotel and Peter have their car access just to the north, in the case of the hotel, they might put up a modest fight, and a workable compromise would be to all the north-side, WB lane to be open from Widmer to Peter (but not the southside/EB) But, ideally, you then make that section of Widmer one-way SB.

I agree. This is also an easy to implement suggestion for the most part, on most streets. Try suggesting this to Councillor in an email.

I would suggest that the email include:

Linkage to the issue of a single left turning car blocking a street, and reference to one person blocking more than 100. A photo would be great. (one car holding up one or more streetcars)

Second, that the change is low cost, and easy to implement at most streets.

Third, suggesting trying it out at 1 or 2 spots in the stretch above...........as 'pilot' or 'proof of concept'.

There is discretionary money available to Transportation for this sort of thing and it can be done quickly, and its not a big thing to un-do if it causes an unforeseen issues.

****

Try this, target Widmer. And target King in the EB direction only at Peter, suggest that after a new elevated stop platform goes in, that King EB get a DO Not Enter sign, and red paint on the tracks, just to Widmer.

It might go over with a thud, but no harm trying.

What? Riders care more about consistency than speed?
To a certain degree that absolutely makes sense. If you have a journey that lasts 45 minutes consistently, but could take 40 if things were better set up, it's preferable to having a journey that takes 40 minutes sometimes and 60 minutes other times.

Obviously that doesn't apply to extreme cases - you wouldn't want streetcars operating at walking speed - but, again, that's a pretty fringe scenario. A constistent travel time means you can plan your schedule out with relative accuracy, and you won't have to leave early and spend X amount of time standing around waiting for whatever is about to happen to happen, or leave at a normal time and find yourself being late.

Alright here's our big chance let's get some members of UrbanToronto on the board!

@Reecemartin ?!?

I know of a few who would fit nicely on the board, but sadly they prefer not to. We already know of one person that should sit on the board, but unless he has change his mind, he will not sit on the board.

Why would they have a board for Russell Yard?
because it went into the wrong thread and should have gone into the catch all thread. You know threads get derail easy these days
