I live in Oakville, but work in Brampton. I could take transit, but it would add an hour to my travel time (one way) compared to driving. Losing two hours a day is not acceptable in my mind.

Given the topic of this thread I'd suggest you avoid the Gardiner in your commute for even more time savings!

A toll or congestion charge would pretty much solve the biggest problems with the Gardiner. It would allow people who need their vehicle downtown to be economically productive to make that choice and not sit in traffic for an hour. If you don't, park it and find an alternative.

I can't move to Brampton because my rent would easily double. Negating any costs savings from not owning a car.

I've tried moving closer to work. But everyone is asking for over $2000/month for a 1 bedroom. My current rent is $1300 per month.

My husband says this often and thinks the money earned could go towards upkeep too. I thought that was part of the original intention behind the 407 as well.

Problem is everyone will take lakeshore, dundas, or any other local road.

Yes, that's a definite risk. Perhaps we should toll parts of Lakeshore instead, to encourage cars to go away from where there's more likely to be pedestrians.

Congestion charge addresses that. But even with a toll, people would flock to local roads at first, gum them up, and then decide to either pay the toll to move quickly, or find an alternative to driving.

Congestion charge is the most effective way, as it affects every road into the selected area. Maybe the city will consider it after NYC has a few years of positive results.

Rehab update from today. They're a couple bents away from the GO station entrance from Ex Place.

Exhibition station will certainly look better once the Gardiner has been rehabilitated. Hopefully there's plans to put some proper lighting under the highway, close to the station.

They're supposed to connect dufferin loop but that was approved in 2019 with no progress so far

The loop will be the last thing to be done as it needs a bridge to run on, not what there now. Until the Gardiner is completed, cannot run an east-west track while work is taking place. Be lucky to see it open by 2030 at this time
