Trump says 'I love the inflation' as US prices rise at fastest rate in three years

President Donald Trump has said "I love the inflation" after official figures showed that US prices rose last month at their fastest rate for three years.
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) figures for May showed that prices had gone up by 4.2% over the previous 12 months. The rate of increase, from 3.8% in April, was driven by rising energy costs in the wake of the US-Israel war in Iran. "I love it. The numbers were great. You know what I really love? I love the inflation," Trump said at the White House.
But he promised the rising prices would "come down like a rock" when the war with Iran was over. The US and Iran have again exchanged fire in recent days. Trump later told the New York Post that his remarks had been taken out of context, saying he had meant that he actually loved the fact that inflation was not higher. "I love the inflation numbers because of what I'm talking about," Trump told The Post. "The numbers are going to be phenomenal because what's showing is that despite the fact that we're in a war, the numbers are much lower than anticipated, and when we're out of that war, the numbers will be at lower numbers than they were even before it started." In his earlier comments responding to the latest inflation figures, the president said US forces had conducted nighttime operations to take "millions of barrels" of oil from Iran, which he said had contributed to a slight drop in oil prices. "When this conflict is over… you will see oil drop to where it was before," he told reporters in the White House. The president pointed to a trip to Iowa in early 2026, saying he saw petrol selling for $1.85 per gallon, adding that "we will be back at those levels very soon". The global benchmark for oil, Brent crude, is still trading significantly higher than pre-war levels.

Last night the construction crew tasked with removing Trump's name from the Kennedy Center was stalling and just installing more scaffolding, and then the administration issued another legal delay, which was denied this morning. Despite this, well after 1 AM the construction crew installed tarp to block the ''Trump'' name from appearing. Now the name is supposed to be removed within the next hour.

Dollars to doughnuts this deal will look almost exactly like what was in place under Obama. Iran opens the strait and agrees to some nebulous limits on its nuclear program.

Which begs the question, what was the point of the US and Israeli action?

Which begs the question, what was the point of the US and Israeli action?

To enrich the companies that make the ammo and kit by having to replace a bunch?

To test some new tech out in the field?

To keep Americans distracted while Trump and his cronies pillage profit through power; and few notice because they're obsessing either about 'the war' or the name plate on the Kennedy Center?

To keep Netanyahu from having to face a corruption trial?

All of the above?

Gavin Newsom and his wife are officially being investigated by Trump's DOJ. No real reason given, although accusations of tax fraud and evasion have been levied against Newsom's wife. Newsom also suggested that it's because he is considering running for president.

I hope he doesn't. Newsom is the governor of a failed state, with extremely high housing costs, record homelessness and addiction issues, heavy taxation and regulation, massive traffic congestion, wildfires and water-supply issues, high energy prices, and the loss of residents and businesses fleeing to lower-cost states like Texas and Arizona. The Republican campaign ads would tear into Newsom's inability to address and perhaps complicity in these issues. Nov. 2028 needs a Democrat who's born in the 1980s, finally cutting ties with the Boomers (and us retirement-leaning Gen-X). In 2008, a 47 year old Barack Obama came out of nowhere to wow the base and nation. Twenty years later, where is 2028's Obama?
