Annndddd just like that the G7 gets upended. Feel bad for Sheinbaum and Zelensky who miss out on their Trump meetings.

Reports say Trump has convened the National Security Council for an emergency session and the U.S. has dispatched dozens of Aerial Tankers across the Atlantic. Theyre getting ready for something.

"No More Wars" mightve just been a slogan.

^I am not sure Iran wants to become the 51st State anymore than we do, Mr. President... /s

There is a half baked attempt in the house to prevent this.

Even Trumps MAGA base doesn't want to get involved with the war.

Personally, I'd love to see the US wipe the floor with the Ayatollah just to get this nonsense over with. Reduce Tehran to rubble and pick up the pieces.

I'm pretty sure US intervention and subsequent anti-US sentiment are what caused modern-day Iran to begin with. Let's not repeat bad mistakes.

Though given things are at a floor vis-a-vis the fundamentalist regime is concerned, it really wouldn't have made that much of a difference now even if they get involved iff they do it the right way.

Agreed. Although I can see this going the way of Iraq if not handled well.

With the Sunni/Shiite divide plus the rampant "cultural differences" across the middle east, wiping out the Iranian Theocracy may not go as planned. I will say though given how things have changed since 1979 I can see there being an appetite for new leadership in Iran.

Keep in mind despite the Shah being the Shah, there was much more freedom in Iran prior to the revolution. Previous protests indicate a desire for change.

My only concern would be Trump. He has a tendency to go too far sometimes and I would rather him no choose major attack option 1.

@zang wasn't wrong in saying that the US (and UK) had a lot to do with the mess in Iran (and those freedoms during Shah era was coupled with terrible political repression and economic inequity) - but at the same time, the current regime isn't any better by this point.

There was a Tiktok from the weekend where a woman in the US military was showing her meal for the day and she had gotten steak and lobster and whatever else - the comment section was filled with vets from Afghanistan saying that was the meal they got shortly before they were shipped off.

With two rogue states involved here, it's hard to get behind who is right here. One can either sit back and /popcorn while they sort themselves out...or hope cooler heads prevail in the de-escalation of it. Because people will die and needlessly so if it all goes south. And put that mildly...

...that said, I have no confidence that the cooler head will be the United States, let alone anything good coming out of their involvement here. And IMO.

I found it very difficult to believe that the US would want boots on the ground in Iran even if they decide to get involved.

I concur.

However, the U.S. is substantially increasing deployment to the Gulf area right now...........its moving a carrier group in (Nimitz) its also moved a large number of refueling aircraft in to the area, which would seem to be something you would do if you intended on a large number of airstrikes.

The U.S. could be readying domestic soldiers to backfill some of those being redeployed currently, and/or to support from a logistics perspective. TBD

On the other hand, this could have been for the army's 250th b-day, or for Father's Day.

And destabilization could make things much worse for the people of Iran. It's no paradise, but one only need look to Afghanistan to see how it could get even worse.

Very true, but in the greater calculus of checking nuclear ambition that became an afterthought. Not saying it is right - just saying it is a natural consequence of going down this path.
