Liberals recruited some high-profile candidates, according to the Globe.

I'm not one for quotas........but as the names noted are all white guys, I do hope they have all recruited some women and minorities whose abilities would justify their inclusion in cabinet.

Policy is far more important than personality...........but all other things being equal, a representative group of ministers seems like a good thing.

Solomon is certainly a good communicator......but with something of a stain on his reputation.....

A curious note......from the above.........the scandal as such, involved the selling of art to certain high profile Canadians..........one of whom.......was Mark Carney.

On the other hand, putting someone in to check a box is also not a good thing. I expect any potential candidates to be qualified, not just there for equality reasons.

Years ago, the Scarborough Southwest NDP ran Jay Sarkar as a candidate provincially because they felt he would appeal to the local residents and he was a minority. I was on their executive at the time and voted against his nomination because he was not the least bit qualified to be an MPP. He owned a large scale business in the defense sector and knew virtually nothing about how government actually worked.

He came in third as a large part of the riding never voted for him.

Canada's Carney says Trump must stop comments before bilateral talks can start

From https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/canadas-carney-says-trump-must-stop-comments-before-bilateral-talks-can-start-2025-03-17/
U.S. President Donald Trump must stop making "disrespectful" comments about Canada before the two countries can start serious talks about future ties, Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Monday.

Trump, who is promising potentially crippling tariffs against imports from Canada, frequently muses about making the country the 51st U.S. state.
"We've called out those comments. They're disrespectful, they're not helpful, and they ... will have to stop before we sit down and have a conversation about our broader partnership with the United States," Carney told reporters in London.

The remarks by Carney are his toughest yet on Trump since launching his political career in January. Carney, who was sworn in last Friday, has yet to speak to Trump and the U.S. president has remained silent about his appointment.
Carney said Canada wanted a more comprehensive discussion and negotiation of the two neighbors' overall commercial and security relationship.
"When the United States is ready to have that conversation, we're more than ready to sit down," he said.
Canada has retaliated with tariffs against tens of billions of dollars' worth of U.S. imports. Carney said Ottawa would only take action it thought could affect U.S. behavior.

"So this will be very deliberate and there is a limit, full stop. There is a limit to matching these tariffs, dollar for dollar, given the fact that our economy is a tenth the size the United States," he said.

Finland again ranked happiest country in the world, Canada tumbles three spots in report

From https://www.theglobeandmail.com/world/article-finland-again-ranked-happiest-country-in-the-world-us-falls-to-its/
Finland is named the happiest country in the world for the eighth year in a row, according to the World Happiness Report 2025 published Thursday.

Other Nordic countries are also once again at the top of the happiness rankings in the annual report published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford. Besides Finland, Denmark, Iceland and Sweden remain the top four and in the same order.

Canada was ranked 18th, down from 15th the year before.
When it comes to decreasing happiness – or growing unhappiness – the United States has dropped to its lowest-ever position at 24, having previously peaked at 11th place in 2012.

Think that Donald Trump influenced both Canada and especially the United States.

Getting shared all over the place, Carney was seen skating with the Oilers today at their morning practice. Making the case for running in an Edmonton riding?

Wearing goalie skates (he used to play goal)
