Oh what the heck. Looks like its attached to the metal framing.

Very strange. From the distant and grainy photo, it looks like construction hording painted grey by the NCC. Just needs a little strip of green at the top.
It does, doesn't it. That red strip instead of NCC green, it gives me Staples vibes.

it's not the final railing/guard. the perforated metal will come down infront of that.

the reason that needed to be added at this level is because there is a soffit space under the slab that will house intake/exhaust louvers/ducts. the perforated metal guard hangs down much lower on this level than the others. they wanted to make sure you couldn't see all the ducting etc. through the perforations.

Ok, perfect. Thanks for the background.

Some photos taken yesterday on the doors open Ottawa shuttle:

And while on the shuttle I got a brief view of the towers down Sussex, which line up perfectly with the street, but I wasn't able to get a photo in time, so I went back today (obviously looks much better in person or with a better camera than my phone)

That view from Sparks is the most interesting in my opinion. Completely changes the look of the skyline from that angle and makes the city look much more urban.

Yeah, Sussex view is pretty dramatic. Similarly from the Queens eastbound around St. Laurent, Makes a jugé impact on the skyline.

Can see it peak out from Montreal Road at Codd's Road. The Renaissance will be very obvious from that vantage point.

Has anyone seen the architects reasoning for the red? As it gets further to completion it feels like it’s a reference to the Gatineau hills in the fall with the blue being the sky (which is maybe why the colour transition is more abrupt) - but maybe I’m out to lunch?

That's pretty much what they were going for.

Quote from the Perkins&Will website:

The exterior design of the building aims to respond to the historic landscape and pay homage to the Algonquin people and the typology of the land. The podium is evocative of the escarpment featuring organic forms and cladding of the tower alludes to the Gatineau Hills in autumn. Designed in collaboration with renowned Canadian artist Margaret Priest, the towers are designed as a beacon of hope and optimism about our collective future. The use of bold colour speaks to the seasonal colouration of the Laurentian Forest and the vibrant red brick homes in the surrounding community. Distinguished by its materiality and the integration of Indigenous principles, the development displays an outward set of ideals about our histories, this place, and our peoples.

Similarly, KPMG, though they say it's the podium, which doesn't make sense. :

The gathering place situated between the development’s two towers pays tribute to Indigenous ideas of connectivity and will be used as a central social space for residents and visitors. The cladding on the building’s podium mirrors the Gatineau Hills in autumn, and the building’s façade aims to respond to the historic landscape and pay homage to the Algonquin people and the typology of the land.
Renderings just to appreciate how awesome of the space this will be at ground level.
