While nominally off topic for this thread, Toronto Nature Stewards has a been a recent point of conversation here. So I thought I would post an article from The Star that begins with a profile
of local environmentalist Paula Davies, who began a small dedicated group of volunteers do this sort of work at Todmorden Mills Wildflower preserve over 30 years ago. That group was in many ways the template of Toronto Nature Stewards, which Paula was instrumental in founding, and the piece goes on to discuss that as well.

Summer maintenance? Upcoming event space? Pool fouling? Island rescue?
Maybe someone was really thirsty?
I hope not! The pond was drained last week with a crew cleaning the base. It was covered in thick green sludge and took a few days for them to clear it out.

Here's a few shots a day apart of the cleaning progress:

What is their end goal? Ponds have algae, that's just how it is. Have they researched how other cities' ponds work?

As predicted and expected when this project was on papers.
Nice on paper, a nightmare of operations and maintenance and sky rocketing cost, all of course coming from my city taxes that could have gone to better uses for ease homeless or traffic
What a terrible take. We can't have anything nice because of the maintenace cost. Go figure.

So nice, an empty man made pond with green sludge my kids can fall into, while sucking up my tax money

As opposed to a normal park where more people can occupy and enjoy

Forgive me if I am mistaken, but weren't you broadly supportive of the Rail Deck Park proposal - one that would cost umpteen more times than this park to the taxpayers, and even more of an artifice?

You have countless child proof parks to choose from. Can't we have a few built for adults? Besides, bubble wrapped kids never learn how to exist in the actual world. They grow into idiot adults. Sounds like your kids would benefit from falling into that pool. They'd learn not to do that again.

Who are you to tell me how to parent my kids?

Okay, let's pull back from the ad hominem, please, even if some of the things being said here are somewhat astonishing. Post deletions could follow otherwise.
