So could the returnable bottle and cans then. Inside a fenced area, to keep the raccoons away.
From Montreal earlier this morning, automated and non-automated recycling at a local Metro store. Judging from the lineups and bulging bags seen at various locations at various times over the past couple of years, there is a demand for this service that seems well used.

Yes but this is Quebec where they are a bit higher class than some of the slackjawed yokels who collect cans in Toronto.

If this was in Toronto, there would be shopping carts full of bottles with people sorting everything out at the store. Take note how well these people are dressed as if they saved the bottles from their home and did not spend all day collecting them off the street.

Don’t get too carried away! This was taken in the McGill district and those dudes were probably trolling the neighbourhood streets picking up empties. It was a bit noisy this weekend, doubtless the good weather invigorated the consuming crowd. I could have taken a selfie, a man in a nice suit, carrying a blue bag of empties, on my way to the Metro, and cashing in for some lunch change.
