Simcoe Public Transit Review is underway and out for public comment right now. Closes early July.

It will ask where you live.........just pick other GTA if you don't live near Barrie.

It offers a range of options to prioritize and some boxes where you can craft suggestions, add-on, or add detail.

One thing I would highlight is consideration of tourists.

Red Arrow is ending its experiment in Ontario. A few months ago, Pacific Western (operator of Red Arrow) was acquired by Keolis (operator of Orléans Express), and they are now transfering the Ontario routes to the Orléans Express brand.

From the June Motorcoach Newsletter (published by Pacific Western & Keolis):
There are some exciting changes coming in Ontario. The same quality service you know and love, operated by Red Arrow, but we'll proudly operatebuses from Orlean's Express (sic) brand - a part of our shared Keolis family. This allows for an even more seamless travel experience all the way from Toronto to Montreal. Now with more spacious vehicles that have 52 seats instead of 36.

The claim of more spacious buses is a blatant lie. Orléans Express buses are exactly the same size as Red Arrow buses (literally the same model). The reason they have more seats is that they use a denser 2+2 seating layout with less legrom, while Red Arrow uses 2+1 seating with massive seats and massive legroom. So the Orléans Express buses are considerably LESS spacious for customers.

In the same newsletter, they announced 11 additional coaches for Alberta Red Arrow service, which I assume are the Ontario buses returning back west. It doesn't say when those buses will be leaving us. I have a ticket on Red Arrow tomorrow and they haven't notified me of any bus change so presumably not immediately. But maybe my return trip in a couple weeks will be on a more cramped bus.

I'm not sure what this means for my future travel between Ottawa and Toronto. I have fairly wide shoulders so the 2+1 arrangement was a huge selling feature. It is uncomfortable for me to work on my laptop for extended periods with my shoulders scrunched in, so other bus operators are a pretty unattractive option for me. Via Rail has enough shoulder room, but with the chronic delays due to CN, there's no way I can justify the higher ticket prices for a trip that's just as long as a bus. I do have a car, so I guess I may just start driving instead, especially when they eliminate tolls on Hwy 407E.

I think Orléans Express is doomed to fail in the Ontario market. They are generally higher priced than the other carriers, but unlike Red Arrow, they lack the premium service offering to back up the higher price. I do like Orléans Express - in my experience they are the second-best bus company in Ontario after Red Arrow - but I doubt that's enough to be competitive on a route with 5 competing low-cost carriers (Flixbus, Megabus, Rider Express, ONExpress, OurBus).

Yeah. If you want the space, your only other option is to take VIA, which isn’t great with the CN-imposed level crossing delays.

The tolls on 407 east of Brock Road are already gone.

The province has announced $9.5 million in funding to create a new tri-county transit agency for Dufferin, Bruce and Grey counties. It also announced $3.4 million in funding for Middlesex County in the same press release.
I wonder why they didn't lump Middlesex with Essex, given the short distances between major centres; maybe even Oxford as well, given it's proximity to London.

Middlesex county already runs 3 routes into neighbouring counties, although not to Windsor. It does however run through Oxford county to Woodstock.

The Middlesex county grant also includes money for a fourth route between London and Sarnia. I would presume that's the existing Strathroy-Caradoc Transit route, which isn't shown on the map above.

I kind of think Wellington county should have been lumped in with Bruce, Grey, and Dufferin counties, especially with the GOST bus funding due to expire next year.

Oops, I meant Elgin. Including St. Thomas and Port Stanley.

I hope these are not one bus in each direction with no timed connections and don't run on weekends type of situation.

To be clear, this is provincial funding to assist a local transit authority established by the three counties, not the establishment of a provincial agency.
Which is exactly why you could have bus services with no connections that run on different days.

I imagine the template for this will be the Grey county transit routes which have been cancelled lately. Those routes ran daily into both Dufferin and Bruce counties I believe.

The route along Highway 4 into Walkerton (which, along with Sauble Beach and Wiarton were the only communities served in Bruce County) was the first to be cut.

Saugeen Shores is rapidly growing. It has a new extension of the Owen Sound Flixbus and sporadic TOK service to Toronto via Orangeville. But it could use local transit and a more regular regional link to Owen Sound.

My first flixbus experience today from Toronto to London operated by Skyway coach.
After leaving on time we encountered an issue where the engine bay door would constantly come open and we had to stop for the driver to try to close it. Eventually he stopped at a gas station to get duct tape and shut the thing shut. The bus was packed thou with every seat taken.

Skyway coach is not known for their excellent maintenance regime so I'm not surprised.

Next time I might choose Trailways instead.

I would have taken the train but the departure time is way too early. Trying to get to Union for 6:30 am departure is really hard.

Trailways doesn’t operate to Windsor anymore.
