Ah, I didn’t miss any words.

Ruby isn’t in her cultural homeland now.

She must follow ‘when in Rome, do as the Romans’ now.

I see she’s without a lawyer and the most likely reason is she failed to pay the bill. 💵
I also understand that. And I get it. But Ruby being out of her cultural homeland and changing her cultural outlook on this process may be diverging paths. We’ll see who shows up for the next hearing.. This road may take some twists and turns and then when the time comes where the money need to be apparent……poof! It was all a mirage. We’ll see. But we should not be surprised.

YM Inc. has acquired 5 leases for $5 million. They own Urban Planet, Forever 21 (up here at least), Bluenotes, Suzy Shier and West49. They tried to bid for three other locations but they couldn't secure them.

Leases they got:
- Vaughan Mills in Vaughan, Ontario
- Tanger Outlet in Kanata, Ontario
- Outlet Collection in Winnipeg
- CrossIron Mills in Rocky View, Alberta
- Toronto Premium Outlets in Halton Hills, Ont.

They could not get the leases for:
- Pickering Town Center in Pickering, Ontario
- Skyview Power Centre in Edmonton
- Midtown Plaza in Saskatoon

Honestly of all people I didn't expect YM to want any leases. Usually their stores aren't too big. They may be pushing for a Forever 21 resurgence up here as they own the license to the brand and it's probably the most recognizable. Stores like Bluenotes are nearly in every mall and don't require much square footage that calls for an anchor space. Interesting to say the least.

To be fair the Pickering Town Centre is up for redevelopment.

Mostly outlet malls. I'm not surprised. Ten years ago this is the same company that had some "$10 or less" stores. Bridlewood mall was one of them, when they used to be inside the former K mart store.
I honestly do not know if they can still do $10 or less today, but then again, maybe in the outlet malls they can still pull it off...(?)

As someone who still goes into Urban Planet/Urban Behavior/Forever 21 to see what the fresh hell they're selling, they can totally pull it off. Urban Behavior at Square One moved into the former freehold Chapters location and everything inside was $10 or less. Urban Planet is always having "sales" (not really a sale but just to get people in the door thinking there is one) and most things are under $25. However, they sell crap, and I've heard really unethical things about how they do business but that's neither here nor there...

So they can totally pull it off. The leases they acquired were all Saks Off Fifth stores I believe- this opens those leases up to a lower price segment for shoppers. At malls like Vaughan Mills they already have Urban Planet which is an anchor space- they're either moving Urban Planet to the new leases or opening up new Forever 21 stores so they can better utilize the license they have for that brand (the only Forever 21 in the GTA is at Bramalea City Centre). All their other brands don't call for square footage that an anchor space provides, so I'm not sure what else they would do.

Did I enter a time warp? Suzy Shier still exists? I'm certainly not in their target market, but I feel like I read they went out of business something around 30 years ago.

Yup, it's still around. They brought back Le Chateau as well.
I miss the old Forever 21 (pre bankruptcy...the first time).
The current Canadian version is not anywhere close to what it used to be.
Yeah it's not the same but the name still attracts people and it's still cheap clothing so I would imagine they're trying to make an outlet resurgence with the name...
Quality is not good. It’s like SHEIN.
I honestly hate the clothes YM puts out. They know no ethics and their clothes are poorest of quality you can buy on the market. Not a fan myself but it is a huge segment of the fahsion industry nonetheless. I would rather go to Old Navy or H&M than a Bluenotes... All YM's jeans stink of Formaldehyde and their shirts are thin as paper. No thanks.

Ruby wrote two letters to the judge against The Bay's wishes (one being 50 pages) to try and be viewed more favorably and got a warning from the office of the chief justice not to try and contact the judge. Honestly I don't know what's going on in her head anymore. Apparently The Bay has even threatened to pull out of their deal at this point. No one seems to be happy!

I wonder if this is a cultural thing?

Many years ago when I took accounting my Professor proclaimed that when working for Motorola in the Asia-Pacific region he had a bribery budget.

Not sure if that's true but I wonder if how Ruby Liu does business back in Asia impacts her way of doing things here.

Perhaps back in Asia she can sweet talk a judge without consequences but here that's considered tampering.

I really wish they would throw the book at her for her antics.

Canadian Tire's purchase has closed and it now officially owns TheBay.com and all of The Hudson's Bay Company's branding.

"We're just getting started, and there's lots more to come. Stay tuned".

I'd say this is encouraging messaging but this is Canadian Tire and we've seen how poorly they can be at execution. Exhibit A: Canadian Tire Bay and Dundas. 🤮

This goes into more detail about Ruby's antics. In short she sent two letters to the judge trying to butter him up, accusing lawyers and landlords of being displeased no matter what, and explaining that she left China because she "attacked a reporter and got nationwide attention". CF's lawyers have also said again that it seems like in terms of business planning, she's making it up as they go along. In fact even The Bay's lawyers want Ruby's business plan edited... Why is it always the complete characters with all the money these days? Is this how The Bay wants to go out? Surely it doesn't deserve her as a savior...

As far as this bankruptcy goes I'm still happy the branding went to a true Canadian company. I don't think I could name a better company to have acquired it. While I do agree they can be bad at execution I feel like they know what they're doing most of the time... More direction than The Bay had at least

She's not saving The Bay, nor is anyone expecting her to. Canadian Tire owns all of HBC's brand identity. She's merely trying to transfer leases from a numbered company.
