Next weekend, they will be working on the pedestrian bridge over Major Mackenzie Dr.
Friday, May 8 – Sunday, May 10, 2026

Metrolinx will be closing a portion of Major Mackenzie Drive to conduct removal of temporary guardrails and install light poles on the future pedestrian bridge. This work and the associated road closure will occur overnight from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on the nights of Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9.

Metrolinx has also announced it will start expanding the Green Rd rail overpass in Bowmanville as part of the GO extension there.

Metrolinx will be constructing an above-grade rail bridge on Green Road next to the existing CPKC rail bridge, north of Aspen Springs Drive and south of Clarington Boulevard. Works as part of this scope will include a storm sewer relocation, track support work, excavations, shoring, foundation work, and abutments. The construction will also require alternating single-lane reductions of Green Road during work hours.

I'm surprised they didn't go with Vader-style signals. cc @crs1026 @smallspy

Driving down Eglinton this evening about 10 PM, crews still working at Caledonia GO with lighting in place. Looks like it’s an overnight job.

I believe this is the track re-alignment announced last month.

What Is Happening

As part of construction work along the Barrie GO Line, Metrolinx will be conducting several work activities in the months of April and May. All work will occur within the Metrolinx rail corridor.

Track Realignment

Crews will be performing preparatory work for a track realignment from Monday, April 6th, to Friday May 1st, Monday to Friday. This work will be done overnight, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. From Friday, May 1st at 10:00 p.m. to Monday, May 4th at 5:00 a.m., crews will be working continuously, daytime and nighttime, to perform the track realignment. One track will remain in service for GO trains.

From Monday, May 4th to Friday May 15th crews will be conducting welding and destressing works and installing temporary concrete barriers to establish a separate work zone from the rail corridor. This work will take place at nighttime, Monday to Friday, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

What would be the purpose of this track realignment? Is it just regular track maintenance or a step towards double tracking?

Just a guess - but one obvious option would be to install the new second track and tie the existing main line into it through the platform section - so that the original main line can be lifted, giving additional working room while the GO platform is built. Then later the other main line at the platform can be installed and tied into when the platform is opened.

I think it has been discussed here before but I can't remember. Is the plan to burry that transmission line? Or maybe that can wait until the second track is being installed? cc @crs1026
I think it's the other way around. The current project includes only one platform/track because the transmission line hasn't been relocated yet.
