You have no idea why they stopped the cyclist, so don't jump to conclusions please. Cops would absolutely do this to a driver if there are valid reasons, never seen car chases?
Officers observed a male cyclist travelling eastbound on Queens Quay West fail to stop for the clearly marked stop sign. Officers directed the cyclist to stop. The cyclist proceeded through the intersection at a high rate of speed and shouted a profanity at officers as he passed. A second officer again directed the cyclist to stop; however, the cyclist refused and attempted to flee from police.
This is what I'm going on. I've seen the video posted by the Biking Lawyer on IG. Here's a link to their statement:

and shouted a profanity at officers as he passed
And in this instance, it was deserved.

Rather than waste time targeting cyclists for shit like this, it's about time the law acknowledged that cyclists are not equivalent to cars, and are more nimble & flexible, and should be legally allowed to do things they can do safely (and many already do anyway) that cars can't.

The video is clear.... They jumped the guy. Yes, he should have stopped, but when have you seen a car driver tackled for failing to stop?
We see him on the ground but not how he got there.

The cyclist who filmed it also ran the stop and almost hit a cop while doing it.

I used to live and ride there; no one stops. Police have been trying to enforce it for years.

I’m no fan of the tackling, it’s totally disproportionate to the offence and threat it’s to prevent, compared to a vehicle going through a stop sign which has a totally different response. I’m skeptical about “high rate of speed” and the danger it posed.

But I roll my eyes hard at them approaching an intersection littered with police and not stopping, not even slowing way down. Like come on people…

Agreed, if you see cops while biking, it's best to obey all the same rules as cars (i.e. no rolling stop, not starting as soon as the pedestrian light turns green, etc), just to save your own ass (until such time comes that the law is adjusted more favorably, anyway), whereas you'd be totally fine in those situations when cops aren't around.

A bit funny because if you see bike cops and follow their example, you'll be rolling stop signs too

I'm sure there's more to the story. If only they were this forceful with others in our city, instead of turning a blind eye, we'd be a much safer community.
Assuming you're saying the police should be equally forceful with cars that run stop signs and tackle the drivers too, right?

People get mowed down by vehicles every day in this city but the police are focused on cyclists on a bike path running stop signs. Make it make sense.

And they get the pleasure of constantly biking in groups of half-a-dozen.
