The province is planning on extending it to woodbine GO and most likely to the airport after that. The original plan was to go to Yonge station, so think we will see that at somepoint.
I keep hearing this (extension to Woodbine GO) but haven't seen any evidence it is true? It would make sense, though.

It's in the city's priority list, but it's not clear how much that matters to the province.

I think the extension to Woodbine makes a ton of sense. With fare integration and a UPX that's electrified and operating every 7.5 mins it's basically another subway, which goes to Lines 5, 2, and 1.

I don't understand the argument for the airport extension though, when people can just transfer to the UPX.

I wonder what this means for FWLRT fleet availability. I hope the thinking here is that some of the fleet is down for other reasons and therefore spare axles aren’t the constraint preventing more service on Line 6?

It's also very easy to construct. Basically a straight-shot along an elevated guideway parallel to 27, with 1 station needed at most between Woodbine and Humber. If we want a good-news story about transit costs, this extension would be it.

The west extension should be a standalone independent line, so it won’t get contaminated by the current Line 6. Especially if it continues further to airport.

I see this line being extended to Pearson Airport in the west end and Seneca College in the east.
I think the big question mark is how they deal with the narrow ROW east of Finch West station. Spitballing here, perhaps they run it through the hydro corridor. And/or tunnel it.

“Contaminated” come on now

We have as yet seen nothing that can’t be fixed in the timeframe required to build a line extension, and thus avoid forcing a needless transfer on riders.

On a different point, I do hope we will never read one day that ON could have pressured Alstom into a Flexity order but political calculus decided the Brampton assembly line was more politically advantageous

Oh don't worry, we will never read about internal negotiations in the Ont-gov ever again, now that access to information is a thing of the past.

When it comes to Metrolinx, nothing is ever "easy" to construct. Just look at how long it takes them to build relatively straightforward GO stations.

Dont get me wrong, it's not a complicated project to extend the Finch West LRT to Woodbine but with Metrolinx at the helm, well.....

So... has anyone been on Line 6 post-weekend shutdown? Is there any noticeable difference?
Unrelated to the shutdown, but next week the speed restrictions at intersections will be gone.
The world cup is doing wonder for transit in Toronto with got 2 more rapid Toronto routes and the end to speed restrictions at intersections for streetcars.
