Michael Lindsay post on the upcoming Line 6 weekend closure.

The one sentence that caught my attention is, "Work will also include strengthening infrastructure for future winter conditions."

Line 6 (Finch West)–Humber College to Finch West stations – Planned closure for infrastructure and system improvements – Friday, May 15 to Monday, May 18, 2026

From https://www.ttc.ca/service-advisories/subway-service/Humber-College-to-Finch-West-stations-May-15-to-18-2026

Service on Line 6 between Humber College to Finch West stations will be replaced by shuttle buses on Friday, May 15 to Monday, May 18 due to planned infrastructure and system improvement work undertaken by Metrolinx.

Overnight service will also be available on the 336 Finch West until the start of LRT service.

All stations and stops will remain open for customers to purchase or load a PRESTO card and PRESTO Ticket.

Regular LRT service will resume Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

They only discovered now? They were testing, testing, testing, testing, testing, testing, testing, testing... for months before Line 6 opened.

I don't understand your reaction. Based on the post prior, they seem to be working on winter time resilience. I see zero issue with doing just so and if true its clearly a reponse to several issues they had running the thing this winter.

That is as clear a win in my books as we can get.

it's good that its happening but it's disappointing that we needed a winter in toronto to inform Metrolinx that there are, in fact, winters in toronto, and its probably best to build it to withstand that in the first place

Fair to be disappointed but it must be acknowledged that sommtimes such issues are never fixed and instead managed for multiple years. Seeing metrolinx actively fix the issue in year 1, is more impressive than I think you're giving them credit for.

I'd assume that the switches work in the winter would be a simple contractual thing to enforce.in a design build. Though perhaps that alone is a good sign that someone in Metrolinx is aware of that.

The Transit City boosters initially suggested that these surface LRTs would spur the development of more College Streets or St Clair Wests. So supposedly we have that to look forward to on Finch West.

Eventually. I don't know why it wouldn't happen on Finch West, given we are already seeing it happen on Eglinton East. Probably not the most in-demand neighbourhood ... but look at how long it took for development to really get going after they opened the subway station in the almost as remote Sheppard and Dufferin/Allen in the 1990s.

And this is only one of many projects under construction or planned (from a good website with a lot of information about this stuff :) )

There are massive development plan for Jane and Finch and several towers have gone up at Finch and Weston recently.

This line will probably never be extended, if billions would have to be spent for so little benefit.
Relieving an already over capacity bus route was plenty of benefit on its own. The planned developments along the line plus the planned extension to Woodbine GO station and eventually the airport would also drive ridership.
