Drove down Finch today, all the switches have 10 km/h Turnout signs. They look like posters the TTC installed themselves. So looks like all the streetcar slow zones will be applied to Finch.

Shhh, no room for reasonable or nuanced discussion on here. Quick, make a rash emotionally based judgment! They're only temporary. These restrictions won't be staying in place. Especially since there's very few similarities between the switches being used on Line 6 and on the streetcar network. In all likelihood they encountered a issue during stress testing and are just applying this restriction until it's resolved.
Just like the "temporary" slow zones the TTC installed in the 80's under all rail underpasses? The same one's I just rode along this morning? They're only temporary. Yup just temporary like your income tax.Just like the "temporary" slow zones the TTC installed in the 80's under all rail underpasses? The same one's I just rode along this morning?
Don't even need that. Just paint the HOV lane red and get on with it. Way less expensive, faster and more effective. What a joke! We should have just constructed a VIVA style BRT along Finch.
EDIT: The bus flying pass the LRV near the end of the clip was the chef's kiss.
So TTC is essentially confirming this is a Streetcar line...Drove down Finch today, all the switches have 10 km/h Turnout signs. They look like posters the TTC installed themselves. So looks like all the streetcar slow zones will be applied to Finch.
Finally some news on revenue service demonstration for Eglinton!According to our fav metrolinx CEO.
Finch Avenue West, began construction in 2019 and was supposed to be finished in 2023. It is now on the 11th day of its own 30-day test, Mr. Lindsay said Monday, adding that discussions were under way on how to ramp up service on that line as well.
What exactly he means with "ramp up service " is anyone's guess but at least we can say that the end of the end of the end of testing is near
Still a construction zone until the rest of the new bridge is built, Once built, streetcars will travel faster under the new bridge than in the past.Like the new underpass which has been raised as part of the Ontario Line work on Queen East, where streetcars still crawl through despite the upgrades.
Shot this video in 2012 for a full diamond with movement in all directions with no TTC slow movementI'm trying to find general switch crossing speeds for other LRTs and trams, they might just be that low. I don't believe there are many switches across the line (maybe a half dozen all in?)
Generally, if all interlocking systems are working correctly, you can go track speed in the "Normal" or "Straight" position. when in the "Reverse" or "Diverging" position the speed is dependent on the turnout angle. The mid line crossovers on Finch are at a shallower angle and so can be navigated at a higher speed than the 10 km/h signs that have apparently been posted.I'm trying to find general switch crossing speeds for other LRTs and trams, they might just be that low.
