The answer, as it often tends to be, is to write to your MP.

Here's a letter draft, feel free to amend and send:

To the office of MP __,
Canada has the opportunity to enhance its global economic connections in response to the United States' recent tariff increases. This situation is a favorable time for Canada to encourage France, Italy, and more EU nations to ratify the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
If these nations ratify the agreement, it would not only reinforce Canada's economic ties with the EU but also create a shared foundation for trade and investment amid evolving global trade circumstances. The value of this deal lies in its ability to improve market entry, lessen trade barriers, and unlock new prospects for Canadian and European enterprises, thereby fostering economic progress and steadiness in a volatile global market. Ratifying CETA could strategically offset the effects of U.S. tariffs by promoting an environment supportive of trade and investment, ensuring lasting economic success for all parties involved.
Thank you for your time, and for your continued representation of (Riding).

After Carney is sworn in tomorrow, he is heading to the UK and France for some political meetings for a couple of days and then it sounds like an election will be called when he returns - set for April 28 or a week later. Perhaps his Europe meetings are about CETA and stronger ties.

"Surprise guys we're now an EU member"

I don't think the delays with CETA were on the Canadian side, Europe has also had a lot to deal with on its plate too, especially recently. It would be nice if it moves ahead soon.

This new poll from EKOS is not accurate - is it? I can't imagine this result in Alberta - it defies the laws of everything.

^does seem hard to fathom but Trumps actions and the incredibly effective and devastating ad making PP sound exactly like him has to be having some impact.

Still, find that poll hard to fully buy.

Apparently Mark Carney does not have to select a riding in which to run before calling an election. The talking heads are suggesting that he will ask the Governor General to dissolve parliament when he returns from Europe and that an election would then ensue with voting day set 30 days thereafter. He is being very coy about where he intends to run. One of the questions he answered after his speech following his inauguration (where he also reduced the cabinet from 39 to 24 members with Chrystia Freeland named as Minister of Transportation) referenced a concern that there were only two Cabinet Ministers in western Canadian Ridings. He named Chrystia in his response saying that as an example she was a western Canadian who now lives in Toronto but that she was well versed in western Canadian concerns vis-a-vis government having grown up in Edmonton. He said that at this moment and with the chaos brought on by Mr. Trump the focus of his Cabinet would be working for all Canadians regardless of representative districts. His "non-answer" left hope that he was still considering an Edmonton riding; but that his present focus is differentiating himself from Justin Trudeau and that he is looking forward to his meeting with Emmanuel Macron of France and with Keir Starmer of the UK.

Yes, there does not need to be a nominated candidate in a riding before the election is called. There is a period after the election call nominations can occur and actually that situation is not uncommon.

I also believe an already nominated candidate could also step down and be replaced in that period. I don't think we use the term inauguration here formally, but I understand what you mean.

I believe 30 days is the minimum period, but the campaign could be longer. If Carney was to run in an Edmonton riding that could help boost the connection to the west he has mentioned.

I knew that Mark Carney had been the Governor of the Bank of Canada; I did not know that he had more recently also been the Governor of the Bank of England. With a stellar background in Economics Mr. Carney seems to be "scary smart". While he is fluent in French and can obviously think on his feet in that language he has a telling anglophone accent when speaking French. I also like that he is well travelled having worked and lived in "Boston, London, NYC, Tokyo, Toronto, and South Africa". His distillation of the Trudeau Cabinet along with new members seems like his focus is on individual capability and aggressive action.

Need to see a few other polls. Anyone know what Liberal ridings in Edmonton are vacant of a candidate? Is Randy in Edmonton Centre the selected candidate??
I think the answer to you’re second question is “Yes, Randy in Edmonton Centre is the selected candidate” but I’m not sure whether it’s Randy or the other Randy and I’m not sure if his selection has been endorsed yet.

Liberals only have 6 candidates nominated in Alberta so they need to get cracking. Just one in Edmonton (Randy), one in St. Albert/Sturgeon, 3 in Calgary, one in the south.

Both the NDP and CPC have quite a few more nominated candidates.
