Big Daddy Trump's mouthpiece - Karoline Leavitt was quoted saying today, "Tariffs are a tax cut for the American people."

You can't even make this level of stupid up!
"Don't attribute to malice what can be attributed to stupidity" - and yet I think this is malicious.

It's a spun narrative to capitalize on the fact that most Americans do not, and have no will to, understand politics or taxation. If people like the person saying it, they have no motivation to find out if it's true.

At times they wallow in their own stupidity, like pigs in mud. Only those who have drunk the kool aid are going to buy that increasing prices for what you buy is really a good thing for you.

"There have even been calls for Canada to join the EU"

Honestly with the way the Canadian dollar has been performing, it sounds half-tempting.
The Euro is actually a bit higher than the US dollar, so not sure if that helps but we should try to diversify our trade. The EU and the UK are a big market, with a larger population than the US.

I haven't thought about CETA in a while, but now would be a good time to press France, Italy, Poland, and Ireland to ratify the agreement.
I am surprised that Trudeau hasn't raised this issue publicly with the EU yet, it seems now would be the time to highlight the value of a free trade agreement between the EU and Canada. We are so close already!

The answer, as it often tends to be, is to write to your MP.

Here's a letter draft, feel free to amend and send:

To the office of MP __,
Canada has the opportunity to enhance its global economic connections in response to the United States' recent tariff increases. This situation is a favorable time for Canada to encourage France, Italy, and more EU nations to ratify the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

If these nations ratify the agreement, it would not only reinforce Canada's economic ties with the EU but also create a shared foundation for trade and investment amid evolving global trade circumstances. The value of this deal lies in its ability to improve market entry, lessen trade barriers, and unlock new prospects for Canadian and European enterprises, thereby fostering economic progress and steadiness in a volatile global market. Ratifying CETA could strategically offset the effects of U.S. tariffs by promoting an environment supportive of trade and investment, ensuring lasting economic success for all parties involved.

Thank you for your time, and for your continued representation of (Riding).
