Obviously there was a one time effect going one way in Dec when the GST holiday started and there will be a one time effect going the other way in February when it ended.

So one step forward, one step back which is meaningless related to long term trends.

Ottawa removing half of federal internal trade barriers: source

Internal Trade Minister Anita Anand informed the provinces Friday that Ottawa will remove more than half of federal internal trade barriers in a move to make Canada less reliant on the United States, according to a senior federal government source.

The federal government is removing more than half of the 39 remaining CFTA exceptions to encourage more trade within Canada, according to the source.

We really gotta go full tilt into east-west infrastructure too tbh
Still - a rare win from the Feds. Alberta did it 6 years ago.

Headed to my first Council of the Federation meeting as premier in 2019, I already knew the script. There would be pious declarations about the importance of free trade in a communiqué, followed by no real action. I was determined to break the mould. So, after doing a very quick disaster check with Cabinet colleagues and senior officials, I simply informed my fellow premiers that Alberta was immediately dropping virtually all our CFTA exemptions, would introduce legislation to automatically recognize other provinces’ professional credentials and would explore unilateral recognition of other provinces’ regulations. No more years of negotiations, analysis paralysis, or endless consultations. We just did it.

I miss Kenney.

I think that might be living through terrible and reminiscing about not quite so bad…

Thinking about “the greatest summer ever” and the sky palace patio dinner’s “do as I say, not as I do” and a range of conflicts with various ministers etc. it was at best an interesting time under Kenney’s leadership.

I mean if my choices right now are "greatest summer ever" and sky palace patio dinner Kenney vs "CHEMTRAILS IN THE SKY" Smith, I know which devil I want at my funeral
Yes, sadly Kooky makes Kenney look good in comparison.

Fair enough if those two were the only two choices but those being the only two choices would have Lougheed and others spinning in their graves. :(

I actually prefer Danielle Smith to Kenney. Much of my long term opinion will hinge on if she can get the HSR started.

I agree low-key. Smith has shown a lot more interest in infrastructure investments than Kenney, especially with the whole rail masterplan.
