Different subject -- in relation to Jimmy Kimmel's Show and Colbert's Show (don't know where else to put this) -- Canada, through one of its major broadcast networks, should offer to pick up their television products and air them in both countries (in the U.S. via streaming services independent of the gutless broadcasters and their mega-billion owners who are afraid to stand up to the FCC). Trump wants to be the Dear Supreme Leader -- right now he is the Supreme Whining Baby!

Watched CNN's Abby Douglas round table last night was good entertainment as the 2 Republican commentators kept spinning the decision to "Ax Kimmel" as a "business decision by ABC's broadcasters - when apparently the FCC Chair - appointed by Trump made it a a political decision just as Trump called it about a month ago, "Kimmel's next," watch as "Fallon will be next" as well. Yet, that FOX genius in New York - Kilmeade wants "Euthanize the homeless." How come he can get away with that was the crux of the show.

It could be like Radio Free Europe. Seems to be needed now as Trump and his allies try to shut down more of their critics in the US.

Well if Kilmeade thinks this is such a great thing, perhaps he should be the first to volunteer for euthanasia. IMO stupid ideas are probably a bigger problem for the US now than homelessness.

The US is a large, self absorbed country, so I wonder how much the travel boycott from Canada and much of the rest of the world because of US trade hostility will get through.

However it is hitting some hard, like those who work in Vegas hospitality. Their tips and wages are greatly reduced because of Trumps hostility to the rest of the world and Nevada was one of the swing states for him, so maybe it will get through enough.

Canada is in a lot of hurt, too, as the upcoming budget will show.

Will be a tough time for Carney to navigate through. It is looking like more and more of the Trudeau-era Liberal MPs are on the way out with new byelections coming with apparently some Carney star candidates coming that would step into some minister roles.

If the Liberal government lasts that long. Will any of the other parties support the budget? Maybe the NDP?

Yes, the next year or two will not be easy. Fortunately, the US trade problem hasn't been as bad as feared because much of our trade is covered under CUSMA, but that is up for renegotiation soon.

Carney didn't have a chance before the election to make many changes, so it makes sense to now try bring in a few start candidates aligned with his priorities and shuffle away some from the previous government.

I doubt the NDP is in any financial position for another election anytime soon, so they likely will have to go along with what the Liberals do or at least not oppose it.

I’m glad to hear this. I like Carney and think he’s a capable leader who means business, but I couldn’t ever throw my support behind the cast of characters that supported Trudeau’s disastrous tenure over the past decade.

While on the Trump theme:

"The Trump administration canceled grants for street safety measures, pedestrian trails and bike lanes in communities around the country this month, each time offering a simple rationale for yanking back federal aid: the projects aren’t designed for cars."

The US Department of Transportation rescinded grants for projects in various cities, including San Diego, Fairfield, and Boston, stating that they are "hostile" to cars or could "impede vehicle capacity and speed".

Edmonton-Strathcona MP Heather McPherson launched her campaign for NDP leadership on Sept. 28. McPherson, the sole sitting MP currently in the race to succeed outgoing leader Jagmeet Singh, aims to unite the party and lead it out of its worst federal election performance. She emphasized bringing people together, advocating for fair wages, affordable housing, reduced grocery prices, and strong public healthcare and education. Other candidates include Avi Lewis, Rob Ashton, and Yves Engler.

Could be good news for YEG representation in parliament.

Yes and being an elected MP, she is a very credible candidate now as opposed to some of the others who have a high profile but did not manage to win when they ran in past elections.

The Bank of Canada is intending to start using "underlying inflation" as a metric to guide interest rate decisions. Here's a direct quote from the BoC website:

Let me start with underlying inflation. Underlying inflation is a concept, not a statistical measure. It tries to capture the persistent—or lasting—part of inflation that is related to economic fundamentals. These fundamentals can include things like imbalances between overall supply and demand in the economy and sustained cost pressures.

A Better Dwelling article from earlier today criticized this as "vibe"-based economic governance, in the piece "Bank of Canada Just Made Its Most Disturbing Speech In A Generation".

Here's another quote from the BoC: Second, recalling that underlying inflation is a concept rather than a measure, we don’t always put a number on it.

This is one of the few times BD is not sensationalizing the issue. Canada is moving away from statistically-motivated decision making, in favour of what feels right to the senior leadership of the Bank.

I attempted to model how Parliamentary representation would be broken down if it were dictated by the GDP of each province, instead of population.

Here's the current (actual):

And here's how it would look if representation was based on economic strength, and not the quantity of people:
