all politicians say stupid sh*t during elections - they are doing non-stop interviews and campaigns for months and every word they say is scrutinized - look at all the stupid nonsense that Biden and Harris said. Daniel Smith was lambasted for her "chem trails" comments but look at all the stupid things Trudeau has said. Politics is increassingly polarizing so it makes sense that people will only single out the ridiculous comments from the political people they don't like.
The first two are not campaign musings. They were actual EOs that were put through. I could add dozens of other examples, but it's clear that you will ignore them.

This won't be a popular view on this forum - but the USA is, and has been since WW2, a harbinger for changes in political sentiment and cultural attitudes . Many Canadians feel a certain moral superiority over the USA because elements of American society can be crude and unforgiving - its a more competitive society with less social safety nets, a wider income gap and more urban violence and individualism. But the fact remains the USA is a cultural and economic superpower, with massive soft and hard global power. It's economy is much more innovative and resilient than Canada's economy and its universities and corporations are major brain magnets that draw the most talented people from around the world. The political revolution taking place in the USA will spread to other liberal democracies - it might not be as intense but it will spread. Many people in Europe and Canada yearn for better immigration controls, less crime, less drug issues and more responsible government that focuses on core needs and not grandiose abstract ideals. People on this forum laugh at Musk and DOGE but many many people in Europe and Canada and other areas of liberal democracy will want the same thing - they will want less corruption, less wasteful spending of their tax dollars on things they don't care about or agree with. People want safe cities with a balanced and pragmatic immigration policy that doesn't overwhelm society. People now feel there is too much chaos - and what's happening in the USA will spread. You might not like it but its going to happen.
The US remains an economic power, but with huge income disparities and horrible political polarization you have to wonder if their society is or will disintegrate soon.

Perhaps that may seem like moral superiority, but given what has happened recently it is in Canada's interest to have a US society that functions and is healthy. We have reasons to be concerned.

Their chaos and problems can not be contained at their borders and quite frankly that is a bigger problem than the 1% of illegal drugs or illegal immigrants who go to the US through our county.

From the New Yorker...
"On Tuesday, President Trump appeared alongside the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in the East Room at the White House, and declared that the two million Palestinians in Gaza should be forced out of the Strip. The United States would “take over” Gaza and “own” it. The Palestinians, after having suffered tens of thousands of deaths and the destruction of countless homes, schools, mosques, hospitals, and other infrastructure, would, it appears, have nothing to say about any of this and would be sent . . . elsewhere. Egypt. Jordan. Whatever. It hardly seemed to matter to Trump that such a policy represents ethnic cleansing. Morality is of no interest when there is a real-estate deal to be made."
Gaza plus Greenland plus Canada plus Panama -- someone is heading for the deep end.

I swear, this guy makes "decisions" via Magic 8 Ball.

From Eater, San Francisco Magazine...
"Yes, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and President Donald Trump met and decided to stay introducing new tariffs on each other’s countries. But the president’s consequential decisions regarding the economic aggression have already impacted winemakers in Northern California. The San Francisco Chronicle reports Ontario and Quebec have not yet rescinded the decision to quit stocking alcohol from the United States, a move set to enter effect on Tuesday, February 4. For Santa Rosa’s Kenny Likitprakong, owner of Hobo Wine Company, that amounts to 10 percent of annual production.
President and CEO of the Wine Institute Robert P. Koch told the paper in a statement that Canada is the “single most important export market for U.S. wines.” The country represents more than $1.1 billion in annual sales for domestic wine. The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) and the Société des Alcools du Québec (SAQ), the companies handling those provinces’ alcohol distribution, were ordered to “stop selling and purchasing U.S. alcohol products” on February 4. “We have hundreds of cases of wine in our warehouse already labeled for Canada that aren’t going to be picked up,” Likitprakong told the paper."
And still the madness continues.

Her victory was a one-off that was made possible because many moderate voters in Alberta were rightfully pissed at Alison Redford and Jim Dinning.
Speaking of revisionist history the reason the NDP won that election was because of Smith’s ill advised floor crossing from the wild rose to the conservatives. Jim Dinning was partially responsible but Redford had nothing to do with it. Get your facts straight

It's even funnier that those "one-off" moderate voters stayed with the NDP. Every year their raw popular vote count keeps getting higher and higher.

Before this election the NDP were not considered a viable alternative for them it was a game changer

I can picture him staring at a map of Europe, seeing the region and saying:

"There's too many small countries here, we should make them unite"

It is also conveniently forgotten that vote splitting between the Alberta Liberals and the Alberta NDP certainly benefited conservatives in many elections before the 2015 one. So it goes both ways.

Nanos poll shows that respondents think Carney is better equipped to deal with Trump than Poilievre.

Poilievre received the second most support with 26 per cent of people surveyed saying he would do the best job.

Thirteen per cent of people answered Freeland, 1 per cent said Gould, while 12 per cent said they were unsure and nine per cent said it wouldn’t make a difference.
