Maybe we should have pulled the goalie at the end of the first period before we went down 2-0 instead of waiting until there was 7 minutes left and we were down by 3 in the third. And then to lather. rinse and repeat after going down 4-0…
As much as I like Skinner as a person, maybe this is the start of a search for a true number one goalie.
Having said that, we watched our team play seven Stanley Cup final games last year and another six this year so kudos to the whole organization. While being second best two years running sucks, there are thirty other teams in the league that only dreamed of that kind of success.

It makes me sad though, but not just because they lost, but because the level of play just didn't seemed to be there. In game 5 they played a very lackluster game. It almost seems like the boys ran out of gas a couple games ago.

A fun run, glad it is over to get back to regularly scheduled programming, but a few thoughts:
1. McDavid certainly helped get us there, but is not clutch and was shutdown.
2. We need a true #1. Skinner is young, 3rd yr done, is a fun/manic player to watch and can be a top 5 on occasion, but typically a bottom 5... especially with our normal D play.
3. Hyman means more to Edmonton than we will ever really know. His void/game was never able to be filled.
4. We need to find a way to move Nurse.
5. We ran out of gas.
6. We lost to an incredibly talented and deep team. Hats off.

Nurse is best buds with McDavid (whose contract expires in about a year) and is a vital part of the leadership team. I would keep him until McDavid has signed a new contract.
