I see that WJ is back with flights to ATL on Oct 26th with 3-4 weekly flights throughout the winter and back to Daily on May 01, 2026.

We need daily through the winter, this is such an important flight for our airport and connectivity to both the US and the rest of the world. It's interesting, while WJ is far from a premium airline, Delta is considered premium compared to the other majors in the US. The code share works well on these connecting flights.

Something to watch out with Delta. I had a full fare business class ticket from Chicago via Minneapolis to Edmonton and was told that the Delta lounge no longer permitted access to those flying to Canada, or Mexico too if I recall. That was about four years ago. I can only wonder if that ever got reversed. I've not tried flying Delta since.

Yeah, we don't need a few more flights to Toronto, Vancouver or Calgary. While I don't have a lot of confidence in our cozy airline duopoly, I also don't want to be too defeatist here.

Our airport already has a lot more passenger traffic than cities such as Halifax, Winnipeg and Ottawa. I feel as the city continues to grow someone will finally get it.

Well at least we just got another great alternative to flying to YYC to fill up their planes to justify their over saturation of flights. Alaska will offer flights to Europe next year since they bought Hawaiian airlines and their fleet of Dreamliners amongst others. Loyal to Alaska as they have been the "ONLY" loyal airline to YEG for the past 20 yrs. Btw, this is really gonna hurt WJ and their dream of offering European flights to Western US'ers. I guess they can still give the bank away as they have to sell their Dreamliner seats as "Fire sales," only.

Fair points . Yes Edmonton YEG does having more passengers year round compared to Ottawa YOW, Halifax YHZ & Winnipeg YWG!

But it doesn’t (guarantee) YEG anything, as it’s up to Airlines which routes they choose operate.

I have also flown Alaska Airlines in the past where Canadian carriers did not offer non stop service from Edmonton. It is good to have more alternatives.

Yes, he is insufferable. Generally being a diplomat involves you know being diplomatic and trying to smooth ruffled feathers not further antagonize the country you are in. I guess he didn't have that important part of the job explained to him.

I believe he previously had a controversy in the Netherlands, so we seem to have gotten their reject. I wonder how to US tourism sector, which their current government's actions have damaged, feels about making it even harder to go to the US.

Be careful what you wish for. It takes a lot longer to get something back than it takes to remove it. Look how long it took to get alot of our transborder routes back after Covid.

The transborder pre-clearance is a massive asset when travelling. Would be a very sad day if that was closed.
