Would be wonderful if, after the velodrome is open, the city redid the rest of the paths in the park. They're nonsensical and often don't connect anything. At the very minimum, a pathway north of TWOS is needed. Paths that take pedestrians from the bus stops on 111 Ave and 142 St into the park and not alongside a high traffic stroad into the TWOS parking lot would be excellent. Add lighting to the pathways while doing this.

I suggest something like this. New paths in orange. Eliminate redundant paths and restore to nature where possible.View attachment 648663
Here’s a piece of trivia for you, the pathways are in the shape of a scepter in honour of the queen. At the location of the qe2 planetarium you can see the top of the design and then it continues to the southwest. Parts of the pathway design have been chopped up a bit by the new rec Center and by the science Center,

I imagine that the city would have to be careful with the lighting areas near the observatory (dark skies).

I Really think Rebuilding Coronation Park's Facilities was a Great Idea

The Velodrome Literally looks like a Modern Arena,

With the Pool Renovation and This New Velodrome: All this area needs is a New Football Field for Ross Shep and It will be the Best Sports Park in Edmonton (and Probably Western Canada)
At least the track isn't a cinder track anymore. Plenty of Parking there now as well.

Project Update - Spring 2025

Construction of Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre continues. The project is on time and on budget. All major interior and exterior building construction is complete.

Some minor construction work remains, including the connection to and integration of the Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre.

The cycling track has been installed and some minor track railing modifications are being completed. The verification and testing of all building systems is nearing completion, as cleaning and minor installations continue across the facility.

Landscaping work has resumed and is anticipated to be completed in summer 2025.

Once construction is complete the facility will be prepared for the public. Preparations will take several months and will include installation of equipment, fixtures and furniture.

During this time, the facility will be assessed for a Category 2 facility standard designation from the Union Cycliste Internationale (the world cycling governing body).

Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre is anticipated to open in early 2026. Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre, which is being rehabilitated, will reopen alongside Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre as one integrated facility.
